  1. 1. Induced Growth and Precocious Maturation of the Digestive System in Suckling Rats and Pigs after Exposure to Red Kidney Bean Lectin

    Author : Ann Linderoth; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; Fysiologi; Physiology; Djurfysiologi; Animal physiology; sucrase; lactase; amylase; trypsin; weaning; small intestine; glucocorticoids; endocytosis; dissacchridases; intestinal permeability; PHA; pancreas; Development; phytohaemagglutinin;

    Abstract : The timing of the postnatal development of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in mammals is influenced by dietary and hormonal factors. It was hypothesized that accelerated GI cell turnover during maturation would result in a precoucios conversion to more mature digestive functions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Author : Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Abstract : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 3. 3. Development and maintenance of quality indicators in pheasants

    Author : Thomas Ohlsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PHA; ELISA; immunocompetence; carotenoid coloration; male ornaments; fluctuating asymmetry; growth; early development; Phasianus colchicus; egg size; sexual selection; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : Females often base their choice of mates on the expression, size or intensity, of male sexual ornaments. Indicator models of sexual selection assume that females assess male genetic quality through the expression of these secondary sexual characters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Axon Guidance and Morphogenesis of the C. elegans Pharynx

    Author : Manish Rauthan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharynx; M2; C. elegans; extra-cellular matrix ECM ; hex; Krüppel; pha-2; isthmus; NSM; pharyngeal neurons.; cytoskeleton; mnm-2;

    Abstract : The C. elegans pharynx is a single cell thick muscular tube that undergoes morphogenesis to attain it mature structure from a ball of 80 undifferentiated cells. This thesis is about understanding the mechanisms and the genetic pathways underlying the process of pharyngeogenesis. READ MORE
