1. Through the magnifying glass - The big small world of marine meiofauna : Morphology, species and evolution in Nemertodermatida
Abstract : Nemertodermatida is a group of microscopic marine worm-like animals that live as part of the marine meiofauna in sandy or muddy sediments; one species lives commensally in a holothurian. These benthic worms were thought to disperse passively with ocean currents, resulting in little speciation and thus wide or even cosmopolitan distributions. READ MORE

2. Phylogeny and Taxonomy of Childia (Acoela) : New characters for unraveling acoel phylogenies from molecules, ultrastructure, immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents a comprehensive phylogenetic and taxonomic study of an acoel subgroup, the Childiidae. Members of this taxon are characterized by well-developed male copulatory organs with conical/cylindrical stylets. READ MORE

3. Cytoskeletal mechanisms in synaptic vesicle recycling
Abstract : This thesis explores cytoskeletal mechanisms involved in the recycling of synaptic vesicles. As an initial step it characterizes synapses formed by giant reticulospinal axons in lamprey and defines their use as a model system. The most common type of reticulospinal synapse, "simple synapse", appeared to be most suitable as an experimental model. READ MORE

4. Cell derived microparticles : method development, and clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : Background: Cell derived microparticles (MP) are released from the cell membrane upon activation or apoptosis. They resemble their parent cell by exposing similar proteins or surface receptors. This enables identification of their cellular origin. READ MORE

5. Ear and hearing problems in Turner syndrome
Abstract : Turner Syndrome is a common chromosomal disorder and affects approximately one in every 2000 newborn girl. The syndrome is defined as a total (45,X) or partial loss of the second sex chromosome in combination with the typical characteristic features, which are short stature (less than 150 cm), absent estrogen production due to ovarian dysgenesis, with failure to enter puberty spontaneously and infertility.
