  1. 1. Ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose and Some Model Uncharged Polymers: A Calorimetric Study of Their Interaction with Surfactants in Aqueous Solution

    Author : Geng Wang; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; calorimetry; differntial scanning; isothermal titration; enthalpy; electrolyte; micelles; self-association; thermal gelling; interaction; alkyltrimethylammonium halides; sodium dodecylsulfate; surfactants; polymers; ethyl hydroxylethyl cellulose; viscosity; phase behavior; self-diffusion NMR; Physics; Fysik; Chemistry; Kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Wang;

    Abstract : The interactions between uncharged polymers, e.g. ethyl(hydroxylethyl)cellulose (EHEC) and some model polymers, and ionic surfactants in aqueous solution has been studied by using isothermal titration and differential scanning calorimetry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Free Volume Determination in Polymers and Polymer Blends

    Author : Camilla Wästlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; positronium formation; crystallinity; polymer blends; inhibition; polymers; free volume; positron annihilation; phase separation; distribution;

    Abstract : The free volume of a polymer, which corresponds to the unoccupied regions accessible to segmental motions, is an important parameter for understanding and predicting many of its characteristic properties. The concept of free volume is the basis for understanding the molecular mobility in polymers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions

    Author : Marina Tsianou; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scaling; light scattering; rheology; aqueous solution behavior; phase behavior; cyclodextrin; surfactant; polyacrylate; cellulose ether; polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; Polymer; water soluble polymer; viscosity; association; segregation; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively. 4. 4. Polymer and Protein Physics : Simulations of Interactions and Dynamics

    Author : Anna Sinelnikova; Johan Nilsson; Carl Caleman; Erik Lindahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymers; proteins; Monte Carlo; molecular dynamics; phase diagram; renormalisation group; SPI; polymer effective model; coarse-graining; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : Proteins can, without any exaggeration, be called the "building blocks of life". Their physical properties depend not only on the chemical structure but also on their geometric shape. In this thesis, I investigate protein geometry using several different methods.We start with a coarse-graining model to study the general behavior of polymers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Protein Surfaces Probed by Aqueous Two-phase Partitioning

    Author : Kristina Berggren; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; partitioning; Aqueous two-phase systems; protein surface; peptide; Biochemistry; amino acid residue; Biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned primarily with peptide and protein partitioning in aqueous two-phase systems and the connection between partitioning behavior and protein structure. The surface properties of a protein is often crucial for recognition and interaction with other molecules. READ MORE
