16. Polymer effects on microemulsions and lamellar phases
Abstract : The main part of this thesis deals with the effects of adsorbing and non-adsorbing polymers when mixed with microemulsion droplets and bilayers in a lamellar phase. The phase behaviour, microstructure and interactions in a nonionic surfactant/ water/ oil-system, comprising penta ethylene oxide dodecyl ether (C12E5) and decane, was investigated. READ MORE

17. Responding Model Membranes. Lipid Phase Behaviour, Domain Formation and Permeability
Abstract : This thesis concerns the interplay between the lipid phase behaviour, domain formation and the permeability of bilayer membranes. An essential part of this work has been the understanding of the phase transitions and equilibrium properties of lipid bilayers. READ MORE

18. PEG and lipids in solid dispersions and liquid crystals - structure and phase behaviour
Abstract : In this thesis, two different kinds of nano-structured systems have been studied; solid dispersion systems of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and liquid crystalline systems containing the polar lipids monoolein (MO) and phytantriol (PT). Solid dispersions of PEG were studied with addition of different substances, lipids or parabens. READ MORE

19. Phase transitions in high-temperature superconductors
Abstract : Thermal fluctuations and disorder strongly influence the behaviour of hightemperature superconductors. In particular the vortices play a key role in determining their properties. In this thesis the main focus lies on phase transitions, both in ultra-thin films and in three-dimensional systems, which are driven by vortex fluctuations. READ MORE

20. Visually guided swimming in box jellyfish: A study of swimming behaviour in response to visual stimuli
Abstract : Most animals use eyes to guide their behaviour. Analysing, and understanding, visually guided behaviours gets more complicated the more advanced the animal gets. Box jellyfish provide a relatively simple system for understanding visually guided behaviours. READ MORE
