6. Advances in Membrane Protein Structural Biology: Lipidic Sponge Phase Crystallization, Time-Resolved Laue Diffraction and Serial Femtosecond Crystallography
Abstract : Membrane proteins carry out many essential tasks in cells such as signaling and transport, or function as electron carriers in photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The aim of this thesis has been to develop new and improve existing techniques for elucidating the structure and function of membrane proteins. READ MORE

7. On the Use of Ultrasound Phase Data for Arterial Characterization
Abstract : Atherosclerosis is one of the major causes of death in the world. It is an inflammatory disease in the arteries which causes a gradual increase in arterial wall thickness and stiffness. Eventually a plaque could be formed, protruding into the artery and partially occluding the blood flow. READ MORE

8. Chiral Recognition by Means of Mass Spectrometry
Abstract : This thesis is based on experimental studies of chiral ions in gas-phase. Electrospray ion source platform (Stockholm University) and commercially available Quadrupole Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer have been used in our studies. READ MORE

9. Giant Dipole Resonances as Probes of Local Environment in Molecules, Clusters and Solidsl
Abstract : In this thesis, I study effects of the local environment on the giant dipole resonances (GDR) in lanthanides and actinides. The effects of embedding in jellium, bonding in small molecules and incorporation into different fullerene systems are studied. READ MORE

10. Thin Film Plate Acoustic Resonators for Frequency Control and Sensing Applications
Abstract : The recent development of the commercially viable thin film electro-acoustic technology has triggered a growing interest in the research of plate guided wave or Lamb wave components owing to their unique characteristics. In the present thesis i) an experimental study of the thin film plate resonators (FPAR) performance operating on the lowest symmetrical Lamb wave (S0) propagating in highly textured AlN membranes versus a variety of design parameters has been performed.
