  1. 21. Development and Investigations of Novel Sample Preparation Techniques : Electrochemical Extraction and Evaluation of Miniaturized Analytical Devices Coupled to Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Gustav Liljegren; Leif Nyholm; Jean Pettersson; Per Sjöberg; Ari Ivaska; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Electrochemical extraction; Solid-phase microextraction; Solid-phase extraction; Microchip; Mass spectrometry; Polypyrrole; Pressurized-fluid extraction; Preconcentration; Electrospray ionization; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Different sample preparation steps prior to a detection method are often essential in analytical chemistry. In this thesis, both static extractions and on-line coupled solid-phase extractions have been studied in combination with different detection techniques. READ MORE

  2. 22. Development of a new generation of 12% Cr steels: Z-phase strengthened steels

    Author : Masoud Rashidi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; atom probe tomography; Z-phase; 9-12% Cr steels; martensitic steels; transmission electron microscopy; precipitation hardening; creep;

    Abstract : Fossil-fuel fired steam power plants provide more than 60% of the electricity generated worldwide, and account for about one third of the global CO2 emissions. The thermal efficiency of the steam power plants is limited by the maximum allowed steam temperature and pressure, which in turn are determined by the long-term corrosion and creep resistance of economically viable materials. 3. 23. Direct and indirect magnetocaloric properties of first- and second-order phase transition materials

    Author : Sagar Ghorai; Peter Svedlindh; Martin Sahlberg; Gabriella Andersson; Ekkes Brück; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Magnetocaloric effect; Adiabatic temperature change; Direct measurement of magnetocaloric effect; Griffiths phase; Magneto-elastic transition; Magneto-structural transition; Second-order magnetic phase transition; First-order magnetic phase transition; Isothermal magnetic entropy change; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The energy-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative cooling technology based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is discussed in this thesis. The thesis has two major parts, one devoted to material characterization and the other to instrument development. READ MORE

  4. 24. Neuronal Development in the Embryonic Retina : Focus on the Characterization, Generation and Development of Horizontal Cell Subtypes

    Author : Per-Henrik Edqvist; Finn Hallböök; Steven McLoon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Neurosciences; Activin; Chick; Follistatin; Interneuron; Isl1; Lim1; Migration; Neurogenesis; Prox1; Transcription factor; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Horizontal cells are retinal interneurons that modulate the output from photoreceptors. Two horizontal cell (HC) subtypes are commonly identified in the vertebrate retina: axon-bearing and axon-less HCs. READ MORE

  5. 25. Further development of NICE-OHMS : – an ultra-sensitive frequency-modulated cavity-enhanced laser-based spectroscopic
 technique for detection of molecules in gas phase

    Author : Patrick Ehlers; Ove Axner; Joakim Bood; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NICE-OHMS; Frequency Modulation; Cavity Enhancement; Molecular Spectroscopy; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectroscopy, NICE-OHMS, is a laser-based spectroscopic detection technique that comprises the concepts of frequency modulation (FM, for reduction of 1/f-noise by detecting the signal at a high frequency) and cavity enhancement (CE, for a prolongation of the optical path length) in a unique way. Properly designed, this gives the technique an intrinsic immunity against the frequency-to-noise conversion that limits many other types of CE techniques. READ MORE
