  1. 11. Theoretical Studies of Surface Forces and Phase Equilibria

    Author : Jan Forsman; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density functional theory; simulations; phase equilibria; hydrophobic interactions; hydration; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry;

    Abstract : The interaction between large hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces in aqueous solution is investigated, using Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations and density functional theory. Special attention is devoted to the solvation force and its dependence on the nature of the solvent-solvent and solvent-surface interactions. READ MORE

  2. 12. Phase Segregation and Microstructural Changes in Starch - Protein Systems

    Author : Carla Quiroga; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Patatin; ß-Lactoglobulin; Amylopectin; Phase Segregation; Amylose; Macromolecular chemistry; Makromolekylär kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the study of the phase behavior of starch ? protein systems in relation to their microstructure and mechanical properties. To study the complexity of this multicomponent system, the main components of starch (amylopectin and amylose) were studied separately in presence of a protein (ß-lactoglobulin or patatin). 3. 13. Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies of the Binding of DNA to Cationic Liposomes

    Author : Paula Barreleiro; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small-Angle Neutron Scattering; Fluorescence; Kinetics; Stopped-Flow; Differential Scanning Calorimetry; Titration Calorimetry; Gel-to-Liquid Crystalline Phase Transition; Lamellar phase; Lipolexes; DNA; Liposomes; Cryo-TEM; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to study the formation of DNA-cationic vesicle complexes (lipoplexes). These complexes are interesting not only from a fundamental point of view but also as promising candidates for gene therapy. The approach taken was to study first the cationic vesicles by themselves. 4. 14. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis

    Author : Jens-Petter Palmquist; Ulf Jansson; M. Jochen Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Thin films; microstructure; epitaxy; carbide; WC; MAX-phase; Ti3SiC2; DC magnetron sputtering; PVD; Reciprocal Space Mapping; RSM; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE

  5. 15. Structure Evolution during Phase Separation and Gelation of Biopolymer Mixtures

    Author : Niklas Lorén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microstructure; gelatin maltodextrin; biopolymer mixtures; structure evolution; phase separation; stereology; confocal laser scanning microscopy; image analysis; spinodal decomposition; transmission electron microscopy; gelation;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the kinetics of phase separation and gelation in aqueous mixtures of gelatin and maltodextrin. The structure evolution of these mixtures at different length scales was recorded by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The microstructure was quantified by image analysis. READ MORE
