  1. 11. Phase separation in duplex stainless steel: characterization and mitigation

    Author : Jianling Liu; Peter Hedström; Joakim Odqvist; Wangzhong Mu; Aniruddha Biswas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; duplex stainless steel; 475 °C embrittlement; phase separation; small-angle neutron scattering; mechanical properties; alloying elements; cooling rate; magnetic field; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is a category of widely used stainlesssteel, which are strategically important in a variety of applications such asin the food industry, chemical engineering plants and nuclear power plants,due to their attractive combination of mechanical properties and corrosionresistance. However, these steel grades are sensitive to the so-called ‘475°Cembrittlement’, because of a phase separation (PS) phenomenon in theferrite phase, which decomposes into Fe-rich ferrite (α) and Cr-rich ferrite(α'), when exposed to temperatures within the miscibility gap. 2. 12. Numerical methods and multi-scale modeling for phase-field fracture - With applications in linear elastic and poro-elastic media

    Author : Ritukesh Bharali; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fracture; multiphysics; finite element; multiscale; desiccation; solvers; fracking; phase-field; solution techniques;

    Abstract : This thesis presents novel numerical methods and a multi-scale modelling framework tailored for advancing the phase-field fracture model with applications in linear elastic and poro-elastic media. In the realm of the numerical methods, the focus lies on devising computationally efficient and robust monolithic solution techniques. READ MORE

  3. 13. Thermodynamic and Kinetic Investigation of the Fe-Cr-Ni System Driven by Engineering Applications

    Author : Wei Xiong; Malin Selleby; John Ågren; Byeong-Joo Lee; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase transformation; magnetism; spinodal decomposition; stainless steel; low temperature CALPHAD; phase field; ab initio; atom probe tomography; calorimetry; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ; SRA - E-Science SeRC ; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : This work is a thermodynamic and kinetic study of the Fe-Cr-Ni system as the core of stainless steels. The Fe-Cr, Fe-Ni and Cr-Ni systems were studied intensively using both computational and experimental techniques, including CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams), phase field simulation, ab initio modeling, calorimetry, and atom probe tomography. Abstract : Radio frequency identification (RFID) offers a vast variety of options to improve the functionality and efficiency in the automated data collection (ADC) industry and Internet of Things (IoT). In the inventory process of RFID with passive data carriers, a population of battery less tags is located in the working range of an interrogator system. READ MORE

  5. 15. Multicomponent superconductivity : Vortex matter and phase transitions

    Author : Johan Carlström; Egor Babaev; Leo Radzihovsky; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; Ginzburg Landau; field theory; Iron pnictide;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is vortex-physics in multi component Ginzburg- Landau models. These models describe a newly discovered class of super- conductors with multiple superconducting gaps, and possess many properties that set them apart from single component models. READ MORE
