1. Time resolved laser studies of gas phase and condensed phase molecules
Abstract : Different laser based techniques have been used to study lifetimes and spectra of gas phase molecules, and non-linear optical phenomena in condensed phase materials. The lifetimes of several electronically excited states of the diatomic molecules vanadium oxide, VO, zirconium sulphide, ZrS, titanium sulphide, TiS and titanium oxide, TiO have been performed by resonant two-photon ionisation spectroscopy in a molecular beam combined with a time of flight mass spectrometer. 2. Multimode resonant X-ray scattering of free molecules
Abstract : This thesis is focused on the role that nuclear dynamics plays in the formation of X-ray absorption (XAS) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of multimode free molecules. A combined approach based on ab initio electronic structure methods and quantum nuclear wave packet dynamics is applied to two systems -- water and methanol in the gas phase. READ MORE

3. Ultrafast Photo-induced Reaction Dynamics of Small Molecules
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is the investigation of the dissociation dynamics of aryl halides using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. In the monohalogenated aryl halides, iodo-, bromo- and chlorobenzene, the rate of dissociation following excitation at 266 nm in the gas phase increased with increasing mass of the halogen atom. 4. X-ray Absorption and Fragmentationas Initial Steps of Radiation Damage in Free Organic Molecules and Nanoparticles
Abstract : Understanding the molecular radiation damage is crucial in radiobiology, molecular physics, and atmospheric science. In this thesis, the initial steps of radiation damage of anhydrous gas-phase molecules and hydrated nanoparticles were studied using synchrotron radiation based electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy under vacuum conditions. 5. Characterization of Ultrashort Pulses And Ultrafast Dynamics of Molecules In the Liquid Phase
Abstract : This thesis reports an alternative method for fully acomplete characterization of the UV pump pulse and white lightcontinuum probe pulse, which is commonly used in the pump-probeexperiments to investigate the ultrafast dynamics of molecules.Besides that, real dynamics of infrared cyanine dye molecules(Methyl-DOTCI) and photo-induced dissociation of trihalide ions(I3-or I2Br-) solvated in different organic solvent has alsobeen carefully investigated.
