  1. 1. A theoretical investigation of Tin+1AlCn and Mn2GaC MAX phases : phase stability and materials properties

    Author : Andreas Thore; Johanna Rosén; Björn Alling; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis presents theoretical research on MAX phases (M=transition metal, A=A-group element, X=carbon and/or nitrogen), with focus on predictions of phase stability as well as of physical properties.The first part is an investigation of the phase stability of the MAX phases Ti2AlC, Ti3AlC2, and Ti4AlC3 at elevated temperatures, where the former two phases have been obtained experimentally. 2. 2. A Theoretical Study of Piezoelectricity, Phase Stability, and Surface Diffusion in Disordered Multicomponent Nitrides

    Author : Christopher Tholander; Björn Alling; Ferenc Tasnádi; Lars Hultman; Susanne Mirbt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Piezoelectricity; phase stability; surface diffusion; disordered multicomponent nitrides;

    Abstract : Disordered multicomponent nitride thin film can be used for various applications. The focus of this Licentiate Thesis lies on the theoretical study of piezoelectric properties, phase stability and surface diffusion in multifunctional hard coating nitrides using density functional theory (DFT). 3. 3. Phase Stability and Preparations of Oxide-Apatite Composites

    Author : Erik Adolfsson; Bengt Kasemo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In the preparation of bioactive composites containing hydroxyapatite, Ca5(PO4)3(OH), and an oxide it has been a problem to prevent the hydroxyapatite from decomposing in the sintering process. This is because H2O is evolved when hydroxyapatite is heated, implying that the occupied OH- positions in hydroxyapatite structure are partly replaced by vacancies and O2- ions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interactions and phase stability in Ni-rich binary alloys

    Author : Shuang He; Andrei Ruban; Biplab Sanyal; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ni-based superalloys; ab initio calculations; atomic ordering; effective interactions.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Ni-based superalloys are the important materials for gas turbines in advancedaeroplane engines . The addition of refractory elements to these superalloys,such as rhenium and tungsten, can significantly improve the hightemperatureperformance by so-called solid-solution hardening. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structure and Phase Stability of Polyelectrolyte-Macroion Solutions

    Author : Marie Skepö; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; hydrophobicity; spatially distributed interaction sites; protein-polymer interaction; Monte Carlo Simulations; redissolution; phase separation; cluster; complex; Polyelectrolytes; macroions;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolytes are polymers bearing ionisable groups, which, in polar solvents, can dissociate into charged polymer chains (polyelectrolytes) and small counterions. In aqueous solutions, polyelectrolytes interact strongly with other macroions and in particular they tend to associate with objects of opposite charge and form complexes. READ MORE
