  1. 1. Multiple perspectives on absorbing aerosols over the northern Indian Ocean and Asia

    Author : Friederike Höpner; Frida Bender; Annica Ekman; Heike Wex; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosols; black carbon; air pollution; South Asia; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles in the atmosphere scatter and absorb solar radiation, and thereby affect the Earth's energy budget, but the magnitude of the overall radiative effect due to aerosol-radiation interactions is uncertain. In particular, the impact of absorbing aerosol particles, mainly black carbon (BC), organic carbon and dust, is not completely understood. READ MORE

  2. 2. Crowdsensing-driven Route Optimisation Algorithms for Smart Urban Mobility

    Author : Petar Mrazovic; Mihhail Matskin; Anne Håkansson; Josep Luis Larriba-Pey; Roman Dumitru; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; smart cities; smart mobility; urban mobility; mobile crowdsensing; route journey planning; route optimisation; heuristic algorithms; smarta städer; smart rörlighet; rörlighetsavkänning; mobil publikmätning; ruttplanering; ruttoptimering; heuristiska algoritmer; Ciudades inteligentes; movilidad inteligente; mobile crowdsensing; planificación de viajes rutas; optimización de rutas; algoritmos heurísticos; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Abstract : Urban mobility is often considered as one of the main facilitators for greener and more sustainable urban development. However, nowadays it requires a significant shift towards cleaner and more efficient urban transport which would support for increased social and economic concentration of resources in cities. 3. 3. Energy transition in transportation : Applying TIMES-based energy system optimisation models to sub-national levels

    Author : Jonas Forsberg; Anna Krook-Riekkola; Andrea Toffolo; Åsa Lindman; Krister Sandberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy system analysis; ESOM; Transportation; Climate change; Air quality; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Transportation is embedded in the fabric of society and a key enabler of socio-economic development, but it is also a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) and local air pollution (AP). Cities collectively account for around three quarters of total energy-related CO2 emissions, and the negative health impacts from local APs are most felt in dense urban environments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Environmental sanitation situation and solute transport in variably saturated soil in peri-urban Kampala

    Author : Robinah Kulabako; Roger Thunvik; Felix Mtalo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental Sanitation; Kampala; Modelling; Phosphorus transport; Shallow groundwater; Peri-urban; Vadose zone; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The environmental sanitation situation in Kampala’s peri-urban areas was reviewed and investigated through field studies, structured interviews with personnel from key institutions and administration of questionnaires to households in a selected peri-urban settlement (Bwaise III Parish).  In this settlement, specific field and laboratory measurements were undertaken so as to create a better understanding of the environmental sanitation situation, anthropogenic pollution loads and their transport and impact (with a focus on Phosphorus) in Kampala’s Peri-urban areas in pursuit of interventions for improving the environmental sanitation and protecting the shallow groundwater resource there.
