  1. 11. Studies on the structure, function and expression of phospholipase A2

    Author : Pontus Larsson Forsell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzymes are widely distributed and the enzymes possess different functions such as a role in digestion and inflammation. PLA2 catalyzes the hydrolysis of the sn-2 acylester bond of phospholipids, yielding a free fatty acid and a lysophospholipid. READ MORE

  2. 12. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements

    Author : Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aquaglyceroporin; lipid vesicles; total internal reflection fluorescence TIRF microscopy; cell membrane; aquaporin; pore formation; surface plasmon resonance SPR ; phospholipase A2; antiviral peptide; lipid bilayer; biosensing; microfluidics;

    Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 3. 13. Studies on the activation of cytosolic phospholipase A2 and 15-lipoxygenase-1

    Author : Erik Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Arachidonic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid, which has four double bonds and belongs to the omega-6 family of fatty acids. Even if it can be formed in humans from one essential fatty acid, the linoleic acid, most of the arachidonic acid in the body comes with the intake of food. READ MORE

  4. 14. Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) Impact and role as cardiovascular risk marker

    Author : Margaretha Persson; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular disease; cohort study; epidemiology; Lp-PLA2; PLA2G7 gene; metabolic syndrome; risk factor; stroke;

    Abstract : Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is today considered a novel specific vascular inflammatory biomarker. The general aim of this thesis was to study the role and impact of Lp-PLA2 as cardiovascular (CV) risk marker in an epidemiologic perspective. READ MORE
