  1. 16. Membranous Nephropathy - Challenges in diagnostics and treatment

    Author : Jennie Lönnbro-Widgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerulonephritis; Membranous nephropathy; Proteinuria; Phospholipase A2 receptor; Cancer; End-stage renal disease;

    Abstract : The variability in the pathogenesis, clinical presentation and outcome of membranous nephropathy (MN) poses major clinical challenges and raises different questions, both regarding diagnostics and treatment of patients with MN. The aims of this thesis were therefore to examine: 1) differences in the glomerular expression of different IgG subclasses and phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) between patients with idiopathic and malignancy-associated MN; 2) treatment pattern of patients with idiopathic MN; and 3) if the serum PLA2R antibody level at diagnosis can be used as a prognostic marker. 2. 17. Signalling and trafficking of the cysteinyl leukotriene receptors in intestinal epithelial cells

    Author : Ladan Parhamifar; Malmö Cellpatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; trafficking; Cysteinyl leukotriene receptors; inflammation; cytosolic phospholipase A2; colon cancer;

    Abstract : Inflammation is a response to injury or pathogen invasion. A large proportion of the bodie's immune system is centred in the gastrointestinal tract (GI). Prolonged inflammatory conditions of the GI have been suggested to increase the risk for developing colon cancer. READ MORE

  3. 18. Studies on expression and regulation of phospholipase A2 and cyclooxygenase 2 in gastrointestinal tissues with special reference to colorectal cancer

    Author : Jan Dimberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) are phospholipid hydrolyzing enzymes that in mammalian cells exist in several different isoform including cytosolic PLA2 (cPLA2), group I PLA2 (PLA2-I) and group II PLA2 (PLA2-ll). PLA2 is involved in production of inflammatory mediators, membrane remodelling, digestive functions and stimulation of prolifemtion. READ MORE

  4. 19. Mechanisms involved in the regulation of secretory phospholipase A2 Type IIA expression in human arterial smooth muscle cells. Potential role in atherogenesis

    Author : Helena Peilot; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Experimental and clinical evidence indicates that secretory phospholipase A2 group IIA (sPLA2-IIA) contributes to atherogenesis. Activity of sPLA2-IIA may be pro-atherogenic both in the circulation leading to altered lipoprotein profile and/or locally in the artery wall where it contributes to lipid accumulation both intra and extra cellularly. 5. 20. Studies on the atherogenicity of apoB-containing lipoproteins in type 2 diabetes

    Author : Camilla Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Type 2 diabetes; metabolic syndrome; atherosclerosis; VLDL; LDL; secretory phospholipase A2 group V; inflammation; complement; apolipoprotein; lysozyme;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), two conditions that are rapidly increasing in prevalence, as well as the dyslipoproteinemia and subclinical inflammation characteristic for these conditions, are associated with an increased risk for developing and dying of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this thesis was to investigate possible atherogenic properties of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in T2D and MetS. READ MORE
