  1. 21. Structure and function of the presynaptically neurotoxic phospholipase A² from the Australian tiger snake - Notechis scutatus scutatus

    Author : Bengt Westerlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Notexin is a member of the phospholipase A2, (PLA2) family of proteins. Despitethe fact they are homologous proteins with similar sequence and almost identicalstructures, they show an impressing diversity of functions. READ MORE

  2. 22. Immunochemical, biochemical and evolutionary studies on Micrurus nigrocinctus nigrocinctus venom toxins

    Author : Alberto Alape-Girón; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Monoclonal antibody; Phospholipase A2; neurotoxin; myotoxin; protein evolution;

    Abstract : Immunochemical, biochemical and evolutionary studies on Micrurus nigrocinctus nigrocinctus venom toxins Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) were produced against venom proteins of M. nigrocinctus nigrocinctus, the medically most important elapid of Central America. READ MORE

  3. 23. Regulation of prostaglandin E2 synthesis in human gingival fibroblasts

    Author : Tülay Yucel-Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : prostaglandin E2; cyclooxygenase; phospholipase A2 interleukin-1; tumor necrosis factor [alpha]; epidermal growth factor; protein kinase C; tyrosine kinases; human gingival fibroblasts;

    Abstract : Prostaglandins, especially, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) play an important role in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis. The aim of the present thesis was to study the production and the regulation of PGE2 with special reference to the key enzymes phospholipase A2 (PLA2) and cyclooxygenase (COX) at the rnRNA level in human gingival fibroblasts. 4. 24. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast

    Author : Maria Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; turnover; plasma membrane; plant; PLA2; biosynthesis; S. cerevisiae; triacylglycerol;

    Abstract : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1. 5. 25. Platelet-activating factor, intestinal epithelial cells, and Chron's disease : An experimental study

    Author : Bengt Kald; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Platelet-activating factor (PAF-acethcr, 1-0-alky l-2-acetyl-s n- glycero-3- phosphocholine), is a potent inflammatory mediator that can be formed by a variety of cells and tissues. In the present investigation, the content of PAFacether was determined in mucosal biopsies from the ileum and colon of patients with Crohn's disease and control patients. READ MORE
