  1. 21. Sources of Arachidonic Acid in Platelets, Bone, Marrow and Gastrointestinal Tract

    Author : Li Zhou; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Phospholipids; Megakaryocyte; Lysophosphatidylcholine; Lipoproteins; Linoleic acid; Intralipid; Interconversion; Gastrointestinal tract; Plasma free fatty acids; Fasting; Dietary fatty acids; Desaturase; Cholesterol; Chylomicron remnant; Chylomicron; Arachidonic acid; Bone marrow; Platelets; Protein S; Prothrombin; Triglycerides.; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : This study investigates pathways by which the eicosanoid precursor pools in the platelets, bone marrow and the gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa are acquired and regulated, and in this context some aspects on the interaction between triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins and platelets. 1. 2. 22. Role of phospholipids in neurodegenerative diseases

    Author : Zhi-Zhong Guan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The structure and composition of brain phospholipids, including also their ether analogues, were investigated and modifications during neurodegeneration were analysed. In order to improve sensitivity and reproducibility, new HPLC methods were developed for separation and quantitation of phospholipids and plasmalogens, followed by quantitation of fatty acids and aldehydes. 3. 23. Enzymatic Synthesis of Mixed Acid Phospholipids

    Author : Dietlind Adlercreutz; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lysophosphatidylcholine; phosphatidylcholine; acyl migration; equilibrium; organic solvent; lipase; phospholipase; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Mixed acid phospholipids are valuable compounds, which are used mainly in membrane- and lipoprotein research and in liposome technology. The chemical synthesis of these special lipids is rather difficult and involves both toxic chemicals and harsh reaction conditions, which makes the products less attractive for medical and biological applications. 4. 24. Insight into the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway : The interplay of the pro-apoptotic Bax protein with oxidized phospholipids and its counterplayer, the pro-survival Bcl-2 protein

    Author : Marcus Wallgren; Gerhard Gröbner; Marco Colombini; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; apoptosis; Bax; Bcl-2; CD; cell-free protein synthesis; DSC; membrane; mitochondria; oxidized phospholipids; reconstitution; solid state NMR; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Abstract : Apoptosis plays a crucial role in multicellular organisms by preserving tissue homeostasis and removing harmful cells. The anti-apoptotic B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and the pro-apoptotic Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) act as major regulators of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. READ MORE

  5. 25. Bax and oxidized phospholipids - a deadly complex : Apoptotic protein-lipid assemblies studied by MAS NMR spectroscopy

    Author : Artur Dingeldein; Gerhard Gröbner; Mikael Elofsson; Tobias Sparrman; Daniel Topgaard; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR spectroscopy; mitochondrial membranes; apoptosis; membrane dynamics and organization; Bcl-2 family proteins; Bax protein; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are renowned for their vital role as cellular powerhouses because they provide ATP via cellular respiration. Additionally, these organelles also play an important role in other physiological processes, such as apoptosis. READ MORE
