  1. 1. Evaluation of Pretreatment and Process Configurations for Combined Ethanol and Biogas Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass

    Author : Pia-Maria Bondesson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ethanol; biogas; lignocellulose; steam pretreatment; acid catalyst; acetic acid; phosphoric acid; sulphuric acid; xylose fermentation; co-fermentation; process design; SSCF;

    Abstract : In view of global climate change and the increasing energy demand there is a need for renewable energy resources. This thesis discusses an energy-driven biorefinery concept based on the agricultural residues corn stover and wheat straw. The work is divided into two main parts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Root surface conditioning in periodontal treatment

    Author : Johan Blomlöf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : citric acid; collagen; EDTL; etching; monkey; periodontal healing; periodolntitis; phosphoric acid; root planing; scanning electron microscopy; smearlayer; ultrasonic scaling; vitality. ISBN: 91-628-2646-8;

    Abstract : Marginal periodontal healing following both invasive and non-invasive therapies is influenced by a large number of systemic and local factors. In order to optimize healing, a lot of effort is put into minimizing possible sources of infection both in performing different periodontal therapies as well as during the healing period. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dentin surface conditioning : the role of collagen in dentin bonding

    Author : Andreas Cederlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Preparation of dental cavities inevitably produces a thin layer of smear, which covers dentin and enamel surfaces. This smear layer, which is between 1 and 10 gm thick, consists of hydroxyapatite, denatured collagen and remnants of cariogenic bacteria. If left untouched, it will weaken the bond between filling material and cavity wall. READ MORE

  4. 4. Novel application of membrane bioreactors in lignocellulosic ethanol production : simultaneous saccharification, filtration and fermentation (SSFF)

    Author : Mofoluwake M. Ishola; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biofuel; Ethanol; Membrane bioreactors; High solids loading; Lignocellulose; Nigeria; Pretreatment; SSFF; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Abstract : Biofuels production and utilisation can reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, dependence on fossil fuels and also improve energy security. Ethanol is the most important biofuel in the transportation sector; however, its production from lignocelluloses faces some challenges. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantum Chemical Studies of Mechanisms and Stereoselectivities of Organocatalytic Reactions

    Author : Peter Hammar; Hans Ågren; Fahmi Himo; Gregori Ujaque; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : As the field of organocatalysis is growing, it is becoming more important to understand the specific modes of action of these new organic catalysts. Quantum chemistry, in particular density functional theory, has proven very powerful in exploring reaction mechanisms as well as selectivities in organocatalytic reactions, and is the tool used in this thesis.
