  1. 1. Probing the effects of photodegradation of acceptor materials in polymer solar cells: bulk, surface, and molecular level

    Author : Vanja Blazinic; Ellen Moons; Leif Ericsson; Thomas Wågberg; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photovoltaics; polymer solar cell; conjugated polymers; fullerene; photo-oxidation; spectroscopy; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Polymer solar cells (PSC) have reached record power conversion efficiencies of over 15%. The operational lifetime of PSCs, however, has to increase for their use in large area outdoor applications. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmentally Degradable Polyethylene : Effects of Additives and Environment on the Degradation and Degradation products

    Author : Farideh Khabbaz; KTH; []
    Keywords : LDPE; polyethylene; oxidative degradation; photo-oxidation; thermo-oxidation; degradation products; photosensitisers; pro-oxidant; starch; master-batch; gas chromatography mass-spectrometry; GC-MS; solid phase microextraction; SPME;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises and compares the influences ofdifferent additives (photosensitisers, pro-oxidants, abiodegradable filler) on blown low-density polyethylene (LDPE)films during photo- and thermal degradation with respect tochemical changes in the polymer matrices and identifieddegradation products. Additives studied were irondimethyldithiocarbamate (FeDMC), nickel dibutyldithocarbamate(NiDBC), carbon black, starch, a pro-oxidant that consisted ofmanganese stearate together with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)or natural rubber (NR) and a master batch containing linearLDPE, starch and pro-oxidant. 3. 3. Synthesis and Characterisation of Conjugated Polymers with High Electron Affinity

    Author : Maria Jonforsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; light-emitting diode; solar cell; quinoxaline; conjugated polymer; photodiode; 4-b]pyrazine; pyrido[3; synthesis; photo-oxidation; electron affinity; pyridine;

    Abstract : This thesis describes synthesis and characterisation of conjugated polymers with high electron affinities. Polymers of this type are desired, for example, for use in light-emitting devices or as electron accepting material in photodiodes/solar cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chemical Pollutants Released to the Marine Environment by Degradation of Plastic Debris

    Author : Berit Gewert; Matthew MacLeod; Magnus Breitholtz; Merle Plassmann; Martin Wagner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plastic; microplastic; degradation; leachates; weathering; photo-oxidation; marine environment; toxicity; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Since the beginning of the mass production in the 1940s, plastic has been manufactured in quickly increasing amounts. Plastic debris accumulates in the environment and lately much attention has been drawn to the pollution in the world’s oceans. READ MORE

  5. 5. Solar radiation effects on decomposition and decomposers of plant litter in lakes

    Author : Måns Denward; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glucosidase; photo inhibition; photo oxidation; littoral; lakes; ergosterol; fungi; phragmites; bacteria; UV-B; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis summarizes the results of a series of experiments, from test tube up to field study scale, performed to increase the understanding of solar radiation effects on decomposition and microbial decomposers of plant litter in stagnant water of littoral zones. In conclusion, I suggest that fungi play a significant role in the decomposition of plant litter submersed in lakes, and that their distribution is dependent on detritus quality and water chemistry, but also tends to be inversely related to the occurrence of bacteria attached to the litter.
