  1. 1. Beyond carbon-limitation : A re-evaluation of the ecological role of photorespiration and direct oxygen photoreduction in seagrasses

    Author : Pimchanok Buapet; Mats Björk; Ilana Berman-Frank; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon limitation; Chlorophyll fluorescence; Electron transport rate; Irradiance; Mehler reaction; Non-photochemical quenching; Photorespiration; Photosynthetic activity; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Seagrasses living in shallow coastal waters are regularly subjected to changes in environmental conditions including the two essential factors for photosynthesis: dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and irradiance. This thesis focuses on the photosynthetic responses of seagrasses to carbon limitation induced by community metabolism and/or high light intensities. READ MORE

  2. 2. Preparation of leaf mitochondria and studies on mitochondrial photorespiratory reactions

    Author : Per Gardeström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; leaf mitochondria; photorespiration; aqueous two-phase system; Percoli gradient; cytochromes; glycine decarboyxlase; serine hydroxymethyltransferase; inhitors of photorespiration;

    Abstract : A procedure for the preparation of spinach leaf mitochondria was developed. The procedure combines differential centrifugation, partition in dextran- polyethyleneglycol two-phase system and Percoli density gradient centri- fugation. The different steps separate the material mainly according to size, surface properties and density, respectively. READ MORE

  3. 3. NMR studies of metabolites and xenobiotics : From time-points to long-term metabolic regulation

    Author : Ina Ehlers; Jürgen Schleucher; Farquhar Graham; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR spectroscopy; isotopomer; phospholipid; persistent organic pollutant; CO2 fertilization; photorespiration;

    Abstract : Chemical species carry information in two dimensions, in their concentrations and their isotopic signatures. The concentrations of metabolites or synthetic compounds describe the composition of a chemical or biological system, while isotopic signatures describe processes in the system by their reaction pathways, regulation, and responses to external stimuli. 4. 4. Seagrass Respiration : An assessment of oxygen consumption patterns of temperate marine macrophytes

    Author : Lina M. Rasmusson; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Katharina Pawlowski; Jonas Collén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondrial respiration; Photorespiration; Seagrass productivity; Zostera marina; Marine carbon budgets; Ruppia maritima; Ulva intestinalis; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : In coastal seas, the abundance of marine macrophytes has profound influence on the flows of oxygen and inorganic carbon through the water. Vast amounts of carbon dioxide are taken up by photosynthesis and part of this is respired back into the water column. READ MORE

  5. 5. Monitoring climate and plant physiology using deuterium isotopomers of carbohydrates

    Author : Angela Augusti; Jürgen Schleucher; Vaughan Hurry; Howard Griffiths; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate reconstruction; deuterium; elevated CO2; isotopomer; nuclear magnetic resonance; photorespiration; tree-ring cellulose.; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Climate is changing and it is certain that this change is due to human activities. Atmospheric greenhouse gases have been rising in an unprecedented way during the last two centuries, although the land biosphere has dampened their increase by absorbing CO2 emitted by anthropogenic activities.
