  1. 1. On Estimating Topology and Divergence Times in Phylogenetics

    Author : Bodil Svennblad; Allan Gut; Tom Britton; Thore Egeland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical statistics; Phylogenetics; Divergence Time; Likelihood based methods; Non-informative prior; bootstrap support; Matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis consists of an introduction and five papers, dealing with statistical methods in phylogenetics.A phylogenetic tree describes the evolutionary relationships among species assuming that they share a common ancestor and that evolution takes place in a tree like manner. 2. 2. Infection kinetics, phylogenetics, and host interactions of bacteriophages

    Author : Shazeeda Koonjan; Anders S. Nilsson; Lone Brøndsted; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; bacteriophage biology; infection kinetics; phylogenetics; host interactions; phage therapy; phage ecology and evolution; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Bacteriophages, or as they are most commonly referred to as phages, are viruses which are capable of infecting bacteria. They are environmentally plenty, found everywhere from the ground we walk on to contributing to our microbiome. They are highly diverse, coming in various sizes, shapes, and genomic compositions. 3. 3. Systematics of Eucoilini : Exploring the diversity of a poorly known group of Cynipoid parasitic wasps

    Author : Mattias Forshage; Fredrik Ronquist; Göran Nordlander; John Heraty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eucoila; Trybliographa; Eucoilini; Eucoilinae; Figitidae; Cynipoidea; Hymenoptera; phylogenetics; diagnostics; classification; taxonomy; systematic revision; morphology; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Entomology; entomologi; systematisk zoologi; Systematic Zoology;

    Abstract : Many animal species are still undiscovered, even in Sweden. This thesis deals with the wasps of the subfamily Eucoilinae (of Figitidae, Cynipoidea), a poorly known group of small parasitoids of Dipteran flies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Taxonomy and Reticulate Phylogeny of Heliosperma and Related Genera (Sileneae, Caryophyllaceae)

    Author : Božo Frajman; Bengt Oxelman; Mats Thulin; Christian Brochmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sileneae; Silene; Heliosperma; Atocion; Viscaria; taxonomy; phylogenetics; relative dating; reticulate evolution; chloroplast capture; homoploid hybridisation; BEAST; r8s; PATHd8; Prometheus; RPA2; RPB2; RPD2a; RPD2b; Balkan Peninsula; endemics; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni;

    Abstract : Heliosperma (nom. cons prop.) comprises 15—20 taxa, most of them endemic to the Balkan Peninsula. DNA sequences from the chloroplast (rps16 intron, psbE-petG spacer) and the nuclear genome (ITS and four putatively unlinked RNA polymerase genes) are used to elucidate phylogenetic relationships within Heliosperma, and its position within Sileneae. 5. 5. Evolution and biodiversity of the Ixoroideae (Rubiaceae)

    Author : Kent Kainulainen; Birgitta Bremer; Sylvain Razafimandimbison; Torsten Eriksson; Sandra Knapp; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alberteae; character evolution; classification; Condamineeae; fruit evolution; Ixoroideae; phylogenetics; pollen presentation; Rubiaceae; systematics; taxonomy; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Abstract : The phylogenetic relationships within subfamily Ixoroideae of the coffee family are investigated by phylogenetic reconstruction of molecular data, including regions of the chloroplast DNA (matK, ndhF, rbcL, rps16, trnH-psbA, trnS-G, and trnT-F), and the nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS). The evolution of morphological characters within the group are inferred, with focus on characters used in classification. READ MORE
