  1. 1. Dynamic Wetting of Solid Surfaces, Influence of Surface Structures and Surface Active Polymers

    University dissertation from Institute for Surface Chemistry, Box 5607, SE-114 86 Stockholm

    Author : Stina Gerdes; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1998]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; stick-slip; Wilhelmy plate; block copolymers; surface active polymers; surface channels; spreading; contact angles; dynamic wetting; surface structures; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The effect of surface structures on the dynamics of wetting was investigated through measurements of the dynamic contact angle and spreading velocity of oil droplets spreading over surfaces with parallel and gridlike V-shaped channels. A rim of liquid was observed to spread out in the channels ahead of the dropfront after a short time of spreading (seconds). READ MORE

  2. 2. Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies of the Binding of DNA to Cationic Liposomes

    University dissertation from Physical Chemistry 1, Lund University

    Author : Paula Barreleiro; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small-Angle Neutron Scattering; Fluorescence; Kinetics; Stopped-Flow; Differential Scanning Calorimetry; Titration Calorimetry; Gel-to-Liquid Crystalline Phase Transition; Lamellar phase; Lipolexes; DNA; Liposomes; Cryo-TEM; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to study the formation of DNA-cationic vesicle complexes (lipoplexes). These complexes are interesting not only from a fundamental point of view but also as promising candidates for gene therapy. The approach taken was to study first the cationic vesicles by themselves. 3. 3. Adsorption of nonionic amphiphiles to solid surfaces

    University dissertation from Physical Chemistry 1, Lund University

    Author : Johanna Brinck; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1999]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; silica; solubilisation; self assembly; ellipsometry; mixed micelles; surfactant; kinetics; Adsorption; desorption; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this study, the adsorption of nonionic amphiphiles from aqueous solutions to solid, planar surfaces is investigated using null ellipsometry. This technique allows independent measurements of the amounts adsorbed at the surface and of the mean optical thickness of the adsorbed layer. READ MORE

  4. 4. Charged Polymers at Spherical Surfaces

    University dissertation from Chemical Center, Lund University

    Author : Anna Akinchina; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Monte Carlo simulation; diblock polyampholyte brushes; polymer brushes; persistent length; stiffness; complexation; macroion; polyelectrolyte; polyion;

    Abstract : Two separate topics in the area of colloidal chemistry have been investigated by the use of molecular modeling: the structural properties of polyion?macroion complexes and of diblock polyampholyte brushes. The main results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulation in the framework of the primitive model, and in the case of polyampholyte brushes the simulation results were also complemented by lattice mean-field calculations.
