  1. 1. The Physical Foundation of the Patterning of Physical Action Verbs : A Study of Chinese Verbs

    Author : Hong Gao; Allmän språkvetenskap; []

    Abstract : This work is a study of verbal semantics with a focus on the discussion and illustration of the role of body parts and the semantic incorporation into verbal roots of the actions that involve various body parts. Following a general discussion of the basic issues of language construction and human body actions with the image schemas of force-dynamics presented in line with the framework of cognitive semantics, it is argued that the event structures of physical action verbs are not arbitrarily constructed but rather the constructions are built through systematic cognitive processes in relation to both human physical reality and concrete reality in the world. 2. 2. Physics from Wholeness : Dynamical Totality as a Conceptual Foundation for Physical Theories

    Author : Barbara Piechocinska; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Erik Sjöqvist; Laszlo Kish; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; wholeness; elementary embedding; left-distributivity; braids; special braids; entropy; Temperley-Lieb algebra; von Neumann algebra; Potts model; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fasta tillståndets fysik; Solid State Physics;

    Abstract : Motivated by reductionism's current inability to encompass the quantum theory we explore an indivisible and dynamical wholeness as an underlying foundation for physics. After reviewing the role of wholeness in the quantum theory we set a philosophical background aiming at introducing an ontology, based on a dynamical wholeness. READ MORE

  3. 3. Metal film growth on weakly-interacting substrates : Multiscale modeling

    Author : Víctor Gervilla Palomar; Kostas Sarakinos; Georgios Almyras; Davide Giuseppe Sangiovanni; Michael Tringides; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Thin films are nanoscale layers of material used to functionalize surfaces or to serve as building blocks in more complex devices. In recent years, thin metal films have become vital for modern devices within, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Elements of modeling nanoparticle growth: Surface thermodynamics and dispersive interactions

    Author : Joakim Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density functional theory; growth mechanism; gold nanorods; dispersive interactions; molecular dynamics; van der Waals forces; thermodynamics; CTAB; anisotropic nanoparticles; modeling; surface phase diagram;

    Abstract : Metal nanoparticles have in recent decades been the subject of intense research owing to their wide range of size and shape-dependent properties, which makes them interesting candidates for a variety of applications. Gold nanorods represent a particularly intriguing type of particle due to their tunable plasmonic properties. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Models of Quantum Plasmas and their Nonlinear Implications

    Author : Martin Stefan; Gert Brodin; Mattias Marklund; Tito Mendonca; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The theory of quantum plasmas dates back to the first attempts of Wigner, Moyal and others to find a suitable formalism to describe many body quantum systems, and from this foundation a rich field has emerged. A plasma is a system consisting of many charged particles, and in a quantum plasma these particles have quantum mechanical properties, such as for example spin. READ MORE
