1. Optical investigations and characterization of soot of different morphology and maturity
Abstract : The formation path from small poorly absorbing incipient soot to larger fractal-like strongly absorbing black soot is extensive, and along this path the optical and physicochemical properties of the soot evolve. Soot emitted into the atmosphere may originate from some stage of this process, which will result in a wide spectrum of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere which may interact with the sun and influence the radiative balance of the earth. 2. Coal and Oil: The Dark Monarchs of Global Energy : Understanding Supply and Extraction Patterns and their Importance for Future Production
Abstract : The formation of modern society has been dominated by coal and oil, and together these two fossil fuels account for nearly two thirds of all primary energy used by mankind. This makes future production a key question for future social development and this thesis attempts to answer whether it is possible to rely on an assumption of ever increasing production of coal and oil. 3. Charge carrier transport in field-effect transistors with two-dimensional electron gas channels studied using geometrical magnetoresistance effect
Abstract : During the last decades, significant efforts have been made to exploit the excellent and promising electronic properties exhibited by field-effect transistors (FETs) with two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) channels. The most prominent representatives of this class of devices are high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) and graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs). READ MORE

4. Pain and health in adolescents and young adults – pieces of a puzzle
Abstract : Background: Musculoskeletal pain is a burden for the individual and for society, and it has a negative impact on overall health. The biological, psychological, and social factors that govern pain and health form a complex puzzle to put together. READ MORE

5. Biological Laboratory X-Ray Microscopy
Abstract : Soft x-ray microscopy in the water window (? ≈ 2.3 − 4.3 nm) is a powerful technique for high-resolution biological imaging. The strong natural contrast between carbon-based structures and water allows visualization of hydrated and unstained samples, while providing enough transmission through up to ∼ 10 μm of organic matter.
