1. Physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling in risk assessment - Development of Bayesian population methods
Abstract : In risk assessment of risk chemicals, variability in susceptibility in the population is an important aspect. The health hazard of a pollutant is related to the internal exposure to the chemical, i.e. the target dose, rather than the external exposure. READ MORE

2. Physiologically based modelling of nanoparticle biodistribution and biokinetics
Abstract : To predict the toxicity of nanoparticles (1-100 nm), it is crucial to understand their biokinetics i.e. how they are taken up, distributed, dissolved and removed from the body. Such information can be gained from biodistribution studies in animals. READ MORE

3. Drug absorption in the lungs : studies in the isolated perfused rat lung model combined with physiologically based biopharmaceutics modelling
Abstract : Pulmonary delivery of drugs is the preferred route of administration for treatment of local lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Recently, there has also been increased interest in systemic delivery of drugs via the lungs to avoid problems with low and/or variable gastrointestinal absorption, and as a needle-free alternative for drugs that cannot be ingested. 4. Drug Dissolution under Physiologically Relevant Conditions In Vitro and In Vivo
Abstract : The general aim of the present project was to increase the understanding of the in vivo dissolution of poorly soluble drugs and thereby improve possibility to predict in vivo solubility from substance properties. Increased understanding of the in vivo limitations of drug solubility could potentially also generate ideas for improved formulation principles for poorly soluble compounds and more relevant in vitro dissolution test methods used in formulation development. 5. Physiologically Based Pharmacometric Models for Colistin and the Immune Response to Bacterial Infection
Abstract : Antibiotic treatment failure might be due to bacterial resistance or suboptimal exposure at target site and there is a lack of knowledge on the interaction between antimicrobial pharmacodynamics (PD) and the immune response to bacterial infections. Therefore, it is crucial to develop tools to increase the understanding of drug disposition to better evaluate antibiotic candidates in drug development and to elucidate the role of the immune system in bacterial infections.
