21. Long-term consequences of anterior cruciate ligament injury : knee function, physical activity level, physical capacity and movement pattern
Abstract : Knee function after more than 20 years post injury is rarely described and none of the few follow-up studies have evaluated functional performance tasks. This thesis investigated self-reported knee function, physical activity level, physical capacity and movement pattern in the long-term perspective (on average 23 years) in persons who had suffered a unilateral ACL injury, treated either with physiotherapy in combination with surgery (ACLR, n=33) or physiotherapy alone (ACLPT, n=37) and compared to age-and-gender matched controls (n=33). 22. Cervical influence on dizziness and orientation
Abstract : The overall aim of the work was to examine the influence of cervical biomechanical conditions on movement performance, to study musculoskeletal findings accompanying possible cervicogenic dizziness and to evaluate the influence of cervical proprioception on head orientation. Two devices, measuring cervical range of motion, were compared: Myrin, an inclinometer/compass method and Zebris®, a 3-dimensional ultrasound movement analyser. READ MORE

23. Knee function, knee proprioception and related brain activity following anterior cruciate ligament injury
Abstract : Background: Injury of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) may have negative effects on the short- and long-term function and proprioception of the knee joint. However, existing tests of knee function are often sports-related and less relevant for assessment in the very long term and there remains no ‘gold standard’ test of knee proprioception. READ MORE

24. Physical activity, participation and self-rated health among older community-dwelling Icelanders : a population-based study
Abstract : Background: The main objective of this study was to investigate older people’s physical activity, their participation in various life situations, and their perceptions of their own health. This included an exploration of potential influences of urban versus rural residency on these outcomes, an evaluation of the measurement properties of a balance confidence scale, and an examination of the proposed usefulness of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as a conceptual framework to facilitate analysis and understanding of selected outcomes.
