  1. 11. Clinical and Experimental Aspects of Phonetogram Analysis

    Author : Leif Åkerlund; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; subglottal pressure.; sound pressure level; semitones; phonetogram contours; phonetogram; intensity; Fundamental frequency; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Abstract : A phonetogram is a diagram displaying sound pressure levels (SPL) of softest and loudest possible phonation over the entire fundamental frequency range (F0) of a voice. Female singers mean phonetogram had a significantly higher upper contour than female nonsingers. READ MORE

  2. 12. Biological mechanisms in creativity and flow

    Author : Örjan De Manzano; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : What would the world and our lives look like, if creativity had not evolved? Defined as the ability to have ideas and produce artifacts that are at the same time novel and meaningful, creativity is arguably one of the faculties that has given the human species adaptive ability beyond any other organism. The goal of this thesis was to elucidate some of the biological mechanisms that enable creative thinking. READ MORE

  4. 14. Sparse Modeling Heuristics for Parameter Estimation - Applications in Statistical Signal Processing

    Author : Stefan Ingi Adalbjörnsson; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; parameter estimation; sparse models; convex optimization; fundamental frequency; inharmonicity; audio localization; symbolic periodicity; alternating directions method of multipliers; N-dimensional decaying sinusoids.;

    Abstract : This thesis examines sparse statistical modeling on a range of applications in audio modeling, audio localizations, DNA sequencing, and spectroscopy. In the examined cases, the resulting estimation problems are computationally cumbersome, both as one often suffers from a lack of model order knowledge for this form of problems, but also due to the high dimensionality of the parameter spaces, which typically also yield optimization problems with numerous local minima.
