1. Piecewise Linear Control Systems
Abstract : This thesis treats analysis and design of piecewise linear control systems. Piecewise linear systems capture many of the most common nonlinearities in engineering systems, and they can also be used for approximation of other nonlinear systems. READ MORE

2. Characterizing Piecewise Linear Neural Networks
Abstract : Neural networks utilizing piecewise linear transformations between layers have in many regards become the default network type to use across a wide range of applications. Their superior training dynamics and generalization performance irrespective of the nature of the problem has resulted in these networks achieving state of the art results on a diverse set of tasks. 3. Synthesis of a Model-based Tire Slip Controller
Abstract : The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is an important component of a complex steering system for the modern car. In the latest generation of brake-by-wire systems, the performance requirements on the ABS have changed. The controllers have to be able to maintain a specified tire slip for each wheel during braking. READ MORE

4. Direction-dependent processes - Theory and application
Abstract : In this thesis, direction-dependent processes are described as processes whose responses differ in shape, strength and speed, depending on whether the input signal or output signal increases or decreases. The way in which these dynamics arise is discussed for three different applications; these applications are a thermomechanical pulp refiner, in which the motor load response to the hydraulic pressure is direction dependent, a paper machine, in which the calliper control in the calender section is direction dependent, and an electronic nose, in which the response to substrate concentration is direction dependent. 5. Control of Systems with Limited Capacity
Abstract : Virtually all real life systems are such that they present some kind of limitation on one or many of its variables, physical quantities. These systems are designated in this thesis as systems with limited capacity. This work is treating control related problems of a subclass of such systems, where the limitation is a critical factor.
