    Author : Mats d Hermansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; bagpipe; drum; pipe band; icon; identity; Scandinavia; Scotland; Highland; function of music; imaginary world; impact of music; insider; outsider; learning music; learning music.;

    Abstract : In the 1960s, a few individuals in Scandinavia got so interested in Scottish Highland piping and pipe band drumming that they started to play themselves, although there was no existing tradition for this music in Scandinavia, and they formed a small community of dedicated pipers and drummers. The major objective of this thesis is to analyse the background to why and processes through which the marginal culture of Scottish piping and drumming spread to and developed in Scandinavia as well as to interrogate what use and function this genre of music may have in Scandinavia. 2. 2. Transitional and turbulent flow in porous media

    Author : Shervin Khayamyan; Carl-Erik Grip; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Fluid flow through porous media takes place in many natural processes such as ground water flows, capillary flows in plants and flow in human organs and muscles. It is also of outmost importance to have knowledge of this flow in a number of industrial processes such as paper making, making of fibre boards, composites manufacturing, filtering, forming and sintering of iron ore pellets and drying and impregnation of wood. Abstract : This thesis explores the possibilities to complement full-wave electromagnetic solvers with fully-connected neural networks. We emphasize problems that must be solved a very large number of times in a limited parameter domain. We present and evaluate the normalization method ForwardNorm. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cracking in concrete : crack prevention with air-cooling and crack distribution with steel fibre reinforcement

    Author : Patrik Groth; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : This Licentiate Thesis consists of four parts. The first two parts, paper A and B, deal with air-cooling by means of embedded pipes in order to reduce thermal cracking in concrete structures. These two papers are submitted for publication to RILEM Journal; ‘Materials and Structures'. READ MORE
