2. Numerical Studies of Methanol PPC Engines and Diesel Sprays
Abstract : The global environment suffers from utilizing fossil fuels to powering internal combustion engines (ICE), due to the massive amounts of released CO2. Besides the global impact, the local environments experience high concentrations of harmful pollutants such as NOx, CO, soot and particulate matter (PM). READ MORE

3. Combustion Bowl Heat Transfer Analysis in Diesel and PPC Engines
Abstract : This thesis concerns a numerical investigation on heat transfer in internal combustion engines, with the aim of increasing engine efficiency. The efficiency gains are to be extracted from reduced heat transfer losses, by increasing the knowledge on how the heat transfer process is affected by various hardware and operational parameters in the engine. 4. DME Combustion in Heavy Duty Diesel Engines
Abstract : Interest in alternative energy and fuels has grown considerably in recent years due to increasing concern about the adverse effects of global warming, the limited sources of non-renewable feedstocks, the insecurity of their supply and associated fluctuations in their prices. However, although there is an urgent, and widely recognized, need to address these issues, selecting suitable candidate feedstocks and fuels is far from straightforward, since numerous factors must be considered when selecting promising candidates for further evaluation and, ultimately, commercial use. 5. Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Flow and Combustion in HCCI Engines
Abstract : This thesis deals with numerical simulations of the turbulent combustion process in Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engines. An accurate and computationally efficient Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model was developed and used throughout this thesis to investigate the development of in-cylinder turbulence, temperature stratification, onset of auto-ignition, and development of the reaction fronts.
