  1. 21. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Author : Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 2. 22. Cytokines and lipids in pregnancy – effects on developmental programming and placental nutrient transfer

    Author : Susanne Lager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose tissue; amino acids; cytokines; developmental programming; free fatty acids; insulin resistance; interleukin-6; lipoprotein lipase; nutrient transport; placenta; toll-like receptor 4;

    Abstract : Metabolic disturbances, in particular those associated with nutritional challenges, that take place during development, both in utero and early postnatal life, have long-lasting health consequences on an individual. The most pronounced evidence of these challenges is a deviation in birth weight. READ MORE

  3. 23. Immunomodulation during human pregnancy : placental exosomes as vehicles of immune suppression

    Author : Ann-Christin Stenqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Maria Jenmalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exosomes; microvesicles; pregnancy; placenta; syncytiotrophoblast; immune privilege; apoptosis; cytotoxicity; T regulatory cells; NKG2D; MICA B; FasL; TRAIL; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : The mammalian pregnancy comprises a challenge to the maternal immune system since the fetus is semi-allogeneic and could thus be rejected. Pregnancy success is associated with the placenta that is not only essential for oxygen supply, nourishment and pregnancy hormones but also plays a role in the protection of the fetus against maternal immunologic attack. 4. 24. Biological Aspects of Peripartum Depression

    Author : Åsa Edvinsson; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Helena Åkerud; Jocelien Olivier; Charlotte Hellgren; Isis Amer-Wåhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Peripartum depression; antenatal depression; postpartum depression; antidepressant treatment; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor; SSRI; pregnancy; postpartum; attentional bias; Emotional Stroop Task; inflammatory markers; proximity extension assay; placenta; gene expression; TaqMan low-density array; protein expression; immunohistochemistry; HTR1A; NPY2R;

    Abstract : Peripartum depression affects around 12% of women in pregnancy and postpartum, and about 2–3% of European pregnant women use antidepressants, mostly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). An increased risk of poor pregnancy outcomes has been described in women with antenatal depression and SSRI treatment during pregnancy. READ MORE

  5. 25. Studies on Prostanoid Production in the Umbilicoplacental Circulation

    Author : Pia Saldeen; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Umbilical; Thromboxane; Pulsatility Index; Prostacyclin; Pregnancy; Placenta; Peroxidation; Growth restriction; Endoperoxides; Endothelium; Doppler; Diabetes; sexualitet; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik;

    Abstract : The fetoplacental circulation is a low pressure system with a high vascular prostacyclin to thromboxane (Pc/Tx)synthesis ratio. In intrauterin growth restriction (IUGR) and diabetes the prostanoid balance may be altered. READ MORE
