  1. 1. The role of regeneration in plant niche differentiation and habitat specialization

    Author : Dirk-Jan ten Brink; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seed mass; seed size; drought; shade; seed germination; seed dormancy; seedling establishment; plant community ecology; assembly rules; habitat specialization; plant recruitment; Regeneration; niche differentiation; phylogenetic independent contrasts; plant traits; soil fertility; comparative ecology;

    Abstract : To predict the effects of environmental change and nature management on the distribution of plant species, it is crucial to understand the mechanisms of plant niche differentiation and habitat specialization. The importance to habitat specialization of particular plant traits and requirement of the regenerative phase of the plants life has received scanty interest. READ MORE

  2. 2. Endocrine disruption in fish : Effects of 17α-ethinylestradiol exposure on non-reproductive behavior, fertility and brain and testis transcriptome

    Author : Tove Porseryd; Inger Porsch Hällström; Ioanna Katsiadaki; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 17α-ethinylestradiol; endocrine disrupting chemical; fish; behavior; fertility; transcriptome; RNA sequencing; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : Aquatic environments are the end recipient for most anthropogenic chemical pollutants. One common chemical pollutant found in the aquatic environment is 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), a synthetic estrogen used in contraceptive pills. READ MORE

  3. 3. Conquest of the Forest. Rice Rituals of the To Pamona in Central Sulawesi (Indonesia)

    Author : Bengt Jacobsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Central Sulawesi; To Pamona; rice rituals; plant fertility; ritual symbolism and symbolic exchange.;

    Abstract : This dissertation examines some salient sequences of pre-Christian dry rice rituals in highland Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, particularly those of the To Pamona ethnic cluster which resides mainly in the present-day kecamatan of Pamona Utara and Pamona Selatan. The analysis focuses on certain crucial points in the progression of the developmental cycle of rice, namely the initial expiatory moandoe sala, the first ritual episodes conducted in the swidden fields, and the pre-planting, planting, and harvesting rituals. 4. 4. Drivers of soil fungal communities in boreal forests : feedbacks on soil fertility and decomposition

    Author : Erica Sterkenburg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Boreal forests harbour diverse fungal communities with decisive roles in decomposition and plant nutrition. Difficulties in studying soil fungi have limited knowledge about how fungal communities are shaped. READ MORE

    Abstract : The boreal region contains 40% of the earth’s carbon (C) that is stored in vegetation and soils with its forests accounting for almost 30% of the terrestrial C sink. Boreal forests are experiencing some of the most rapid rates of climatic warming and increases in fire activity, threatening to release large amounts of their dense C reserves to the atmosphere.
