  1. 1. Respiratory NAD(P)H dehydrogenases of plants - Gene identity and expression in response to light and cold

    Author : Staffan Svensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; morfologi; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morphology; taxonomy; Systematic botany; Växtgenetik; Plant genetics; plant mitochondria; NADH dehydrogenases; light dependence; mRNA quantification; leaf respiration; cold treatment; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : The respiratory chain of plants contains class 2 NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, not present in animals. The functional roles of these enzymes have been elusive for a long time. Two cDNAs, homologous to class 2 NADH dehydrogenase genes of yeast and E. coli, were isolated from potato leaves. READ MORE

  2. 2. Early land plant spores from the Paleozoic of Sweden – taxonomy, stratigraphy and paleoenvironments

    Author : Kristina Mehlqvist; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spores; early land plants; taxonomy; stratigraphy; biostratigraphy; Silurian;

    Abstract : The Silurian through earliest Devonian, between ca 444 and 412 million years ago, was characterized by significant changes in global climate and environment. At that time, plants and animals had begun to expand the colonization of previous relatively desolate terrestrial landscape. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Genus Amomum (Zingiberaceae) in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam : Taxonomy and Ethnobotany, with Special Emphasis on Women's Health

    Author : Vichith Lamxay; Lars Björk; Axel Dalberg Poulsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amomum; Zingiberaceae; Flore du Cambodge du Laos et du Vietnam; Taxonomy; Ethnobotany; Postpartum; Mother roasting; Hotbed; Brou; Saek; Kry; Lao PDR; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Abstract : The species of Amomum Roxb. (Zingiberaceae) in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam are revised. Thirty-five species and two varieties are recognised, all names are typified, and detailed descriptions and a key are provided. Nine new species are described and one species is validated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Gene description, activity quantification and physiological responses of mitochondrial alternative NAD(P)H dehydrogenases

    Author : Fredrik Johansson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; morphology; taxonomy; Systematic botany; plant mitochondria; NAD P H dehydrogenases; cold treatment; complex I; light dependence; antimycin a; alamethicin;

    Abstract : In addition to proton-pumping complex I, the plant respiratory chain contains type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases. These extra enzymes do not pump protons and consequently do not contribute to the electrochemical proton gradient. READ MORE

  5. 5. Geographic Distribution of Intra-specific Variation in Widespread Eurasian boreo-nemoral Woodland Herbs

    Author : Torbjörn Tyler; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik; morfologi; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; phytogeography; morphology; taxonomy; historical biogeography; Systematic botany; allozymes; population differentiation; postglacial migration; genetic variation; geographic variation;

    Abstract : Many woodland plant species have huge distribution areas covering large parts of the Eurasian continent including areas that were glaciated during the last glacial period. In the present thesis, the geographic distribution of variation within such species is investigated and discussed in relation to glacial survival and post-glacial migration, dispersal ability, breeding system and levels of gene-flow between populations and related species, and various methods to measure and analyse genetic variation.
