  1. 16. Temperature effects on UV-B induced DNA damage and repair in plants and a lichen

    Author : Markus Paulsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tobacco Nicotiana tabacum ; Temperature; Subarctic; Plants; Photoreactivation; Photolyase; Lichen; DNA damage; Cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers CPD ; 6-4 Photoproducts; Cladonia arbuscula ssp. mitis; Ultraviolet radiation; UV-B; Vaccinium vitis-idaea; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik;

    Abstract : All living organisms have DNA and since DNA is essential to life it must be repaired when damaged. UV radiation is one of the major DNA damaging agents, which photosynthetic organisms cannot avoid. READ MORE

  2. 17. Macrocyclic polypeptides from plants

    Author : Ulf Göransson; David Craik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to explore the structural and functional diversity of polypeptides that are found in plants. Expanding knowledge of simililarities between plant use of these compound and animal use promises exceptional opportunities for finding, from plant research, new structures with biomedical and biotechnological potential. 3. 18. Grid-forming wind power plants

    Author : Anant Narula; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wind power plants WPPs ; grid-forming GFM ; inertia; Ancillary services; frequency support; coordination; current limitation; energy storage systems ESS ; transient stability;

    Abstract : With growing concerns over climate change, the power system is witnessing an unprecedented growth in electricity generation from intermittent renewable energy sources (RES) such as wind and solar, which are commonly interfaced to the grid by power-electronic converters. However, increasing the penetration level of converter-interfaced generation units reduces the number of synchronous generators (SGs) in the grid that provide system services to support voltage and frequency, either inherently or through mandatory requirements and market products. 4. 19. Nitrogen, parasites and plants : key interactions in boreal forest ecosystems

    Author : Joachim Strengbom; Lars Ericson; Gaius R Shaver; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Critical loads; Deschampsia flexuosa; amino acids; mycorrhizal fungi; natural enemies; N deposition; N limitation; vegetational composition; Valdensia heterodoxa; Vaccinium myrtillus;

    Abstract : In the work described in this thesis I studied how increases in nitrogen (N) inputs may affect plant community structure in boreal forest understorey vegetation. These phenomena were investigated in N fertilization experiments and along a national N deposition gradient. READ MORE
