  1. 1. Antibody based plasma protein profiling

    Author : Ulrika Qundos; Jochen M. Schwenk; Peter Nilsson; Mathias Uhlén; Ulrike Korf; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein profiling; plasma; antibody; affinity proteomics; biomark- ers; multiplex; assay development;

    Abstract : This thesis is about protein profiling in serum and plasma using antibody suspension bead arrays for the analysis of biobanked samples and in the context of prostate cancer biomarker discovery. The influence of sample preparation methods on antibody based protein profiles were investigated (Papers I-III) and a prostate cancer candidate biomarker identified and verified (Papers III-V).     Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; microscopy; plasma membrane; membrane proteins; membrane proteins diffusion; single-molecule imaging; single-molecule tracking; pentameric ligand-gated ion channels; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; serotonin receptor; synapse; neuromuscular junction; post-synaptic scaffold; rapsyn; myopathies; fluorescent proteins; Förster resonance energy transfer; FRET imaging; protein-protein interactions; protein trafficking; photo-activatable proteins; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Membrane protein dynamics is of great importance for living organisms. The precise localization of proteins composing a synapse on the membrane facing a nerve terminus is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. In muscle fibers, the nicotinic acetylcholine is densely packed under the motor nerve termini. READ MORE

    Abstract : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Antibody-based bead arrays for high-throughput protein profiling in human plasma and serum

    Author : Kimi Drobin; Jochen M. Schwenk; Peter Nilsson; Ulrika Qundos; Angela Silveira; Maria Pernemalm; KTH; []

    Abstract : Affinity-based proteomics utilizes affinity binders to detect target proteins in a large-scale manner. This thesis describes a high-throughput method, which enables the search for biomarker candidates in human plasma and serum. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human Aquaporins: Production, Characterization and Interactions

    Author : Jennie Sjöhamn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquaporins; membrane protein; protein production; protein characterization; protein:protein interactions; structural biochemistry;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins are essential components of the cell and responsible for the communication with the outside environment and transport of molecules across the membrane. Water transport is facilitated by aquaporins, which are water selective transmembrane pores that serve to maintain cell homeostasis. READ MORE
