  1. 1. Neutron Spectroscopy Instrumentation and Methods for Fusion Plasmas

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Henrik Sjöstrand; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutron spectroscopy; plasma diagnostics; fusion power; fusion; plasma heating; MPRu; JET; triton burn-up; ITER; neutron yield; calibration; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Geocosmophysics and plasma physics Fusion; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Geokosmofysik och plasmafysik Fusion;

    Abstract : When the heavy hydrogen isotopes deuterium (D) and tritium (T) undergo nuclear fusion large amounts of energy are released. At the Joint European Torus (JET) research is performed on how to harvest this energy. Two of the most important fusion reactions, d+d→3He+n (En = 2.5 MeV) and d+t→4He+n (En = 14 MeV), produce neutrons. READ MORE

    Abstract : Motivated by spectroscopic analysis of astrophysical and laboratory plasma, this thesis concerns the fundamental structure and spectral properties of atoms and their ions. The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method is used to predict the emission or absorption of radiation, by atomic systems in general, and of heavy and highly charged ions in particular. Abstract : Neutron emission spectra, measured with the time of flight spectrometer TOFOR, at the joint European torus (JET) are presented in this thesis. TOFOR has been in use since 2005, routinely measuring the neutron emission from JET plasmas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fundamentals of High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering

    University dissertation from Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Johan Böhlmark; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma; Pulsed plasma; High Power Pulsed Magnetron Sputtering; Plasma Characterization; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik;

    Abstract : In plasma assisted thin film growth, control over the energy and direction of the incoming species is desired. If the growth species are ionized this can be achieved by the use of a substrate bias or a magnetic field. Ions may be accelerated by an applied potential, whereas neutral particles may not. Abstract : Gas phase reactions at elevated temperatures are versatile tools for material manufacturing and energy conversion. They are of great commercial interest, but they often entail hazardous impacts on the environment. There is consequently a pronounced need for the further develpment of processes utilising these types of reactions. READ MORE
