  1. 16. Numerical Simulation as a Tool for Studying Waves and Radiation in Space

    Author : Lars Kristen Selberg Daldorff; Bo Thide; Francesco Califano; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; space physics; plasma physics; kinetic plasma; plasma simulations; beam instabilities; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : Plasma physics governs the area of interactions between charged particles. As 99% of the visible universe is in a plasma state, it is an important topic in astronomy and space physics, where we already at an altitude of 60 km reach the plasma environment surrounding our planet in the form of the ionosphere. 2. 17. Probing the solar wind evolution with kinetic waves

    Author : Joan Jordi Boldú-O´Farrill Treviño; Daniel B. Graham; Herbert Gunell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solar wind; plasma; space physics; plasma waves; kinetic theory;

    Abstract : Charged particles constantly stream outward from the Sun to fill the solar system. These particles, consisting mainly of protons and electrons, form a plasma called the solar wind. READ MORE

  3. 18. Gravitational perturbations in plasmas and cosmology

    Author : Mats Forsberg; Gert Brodin; Michael Bradley; Christopher Clarkson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; general relativity; cosmology; gravitational waves; plasma; electromagnetic waves; nonlinear waves; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik; Theory of relativity; gravitation; Relativitetsteori; gravitation; Cosmology; Kosmologi; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Gravitational perturbations can be in the form of scalars, vectors or tensors. This thesis focuses on the evolution of scalar perturbations in cosmology, and interactions between tensor perturbations, in the form of gravitational waves, and plasma waves. READ MORE

  4. 19. Plasma-Facing Components in Tokamaks : Studies of Wall Conditioning Processes and Plasma Impact on Diagnostic Mirrors

    Author : Álvaro García Carrasco; Marek Rubel; Marco Cecconello; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasa-wall interactions; wall conditioning; tracers; diagnostic mirrors; ICWC; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Understanding of material migration and its impact on the formation of co-deposited mixed material layers on plasma-facing components is essential for the development of fusion reactors. This thesis focuses on this topic. It is based on experiments performed at JET and TEXTOR tokamaks. READ MORE

  5. 20. Modelling of laser plasma interaction with applications to particle acceleration and radiation generation

    Author : Benjamin Svedung Wettervik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plasma; ion acceleration; continuum methods; electron wakefield acceleration; raditation generation; coherent X-ray pulses; Vlasov-Maxwell equations;

    Abstract : The development of laser systems with ultra-high intensities has allowed the study of the relativistic interaction of laser light and ionized matter, plasmas, as well as opened up prospects for compact particle accelerators, generation of high intensity X-ray, XUV radiation, and probing QED-effects, which are present in the high intensity regime. To describe laser matter interaction, it is necessary to self-consistently account for the paths of a large number of particles and the corresponding electromagnetic fields, with the addition of stochastic effects at high laser intensities.
