  1. 16. Studies on vasoactivity of fibrin(ogen) derived peptides

    Author : Katarina Saldeen; Asrar Malik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Fibrin ogen derived peptides; vasoactivity; prostacyclin; nitric oxide; angiotensin converting enzyme; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Fibrin accumulation is a common fmding in many pathological conditions, such as in inflammatory processes, e.g. in the lungs in pneumonia or pulmonary insufficiency after sepsis. During lysis of the fibrin by plasmin or leukocyte elastase, peptides are released that may contribute to the pathophysiological changes. READ MORE

  2. 17. Evaluation of UHT milk processed by direct steam injection and steam infusion technology

    Author : Bozena Malmgren; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sedimentation; gel formation; microstructure; TEM transmission electron microscopy; immunogold labelling; heat effects; Technological sciences; Teknik; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; proteolysis; steam infusion; UHT milk; steam injection;

    Abstract : UHT direct steam injection and steam infusion are widely used; however there is no comparison of their impact on milk components. This study evaluates the structural changes at different steps during the UHT processing of whole milk in a full-scale UHT plant by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and particle size measurements, and follows the enzymatic activity. 3. 18. Plasminogen : a pleiotropic inflammatory regulator in radiation-induced wound formation and wound repair

    Author : Mahsa Fallah; Tor Ny; Malgorzata Wilczynska; Robert Medcalf; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The plasminogen activator (PA) system plays important roles in many physiological and pathological processes, including inflammation and wound healing. Plasmin, the central component of the PA system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease that is derived from its inactive precursor form, plasminogen. READ MORE

  4. 19. On the induction of inflammatory reactions by Streptococcus pyogenes

    Author : Lisa Påhlman; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; Streptococcal collagen-like surface protein; M protein; Inflammation; Streptococcus pyogenes;

    Abstract : Streptococcus pyogenes is an important human pathogen that causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In order to successfully infect the human host, S. pyogenes is equipped with tools that modulate the human immune defence. READ MORE

  5. 20. Variation in raw milk quality : impact on milk coagulation and cheese ripening

    Author : Hasitha Priyashantha; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis examined some of the causes behind recent increasing variation in ripening time of a traditional, Swedish long-ripening hard cheese. Variations in the composition and properties of farm and dairy silo milk intended for production of the long-ripening cheese were recorded during one year, and the resulting cheese was characterised.
