  1. 6. The Plasminogen Activation System in Human Endometrium and Endometrial Cancer; Function, Tissue Localization and Prognostic Importance

    Author : Johanna Nordengren; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; progesterone; estradiol; cultured cells; gene expression; prognosis; hyperplasia; neoplasm; endometrium; human; Plasminogen activators; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The release of urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) from endometrial stromal cells decreased after progesterone stimulation, due to upregulation of PA inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) and uPA receptor (uPAR). Subsequently, the uPA:PAI-1 complex was internalized and degraded via uPAR. READ MORE

  2. 7. Streptococcus pyogenes and its interactions with the human host

    Author : Ulrika Ringdahl; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; M protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; fibrinogen; phagocytosis; platelet; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; Mikrobiologi; mycology; Infektioner; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : We have found that a set of group A streptococcal strains, primarily associated with skin infections, express surface-associated M proteins that bind plasminogen and plasmin with high affinity. The binding is mediated by a common 13 amino acid internal repeated sequence located in the NH2-terminal surface-exposed portion of these M proteins. READ MORE

  3. 8. Activation of the novel PDGFS by plasminogen activators in tumorigenesis

    Author : Monika Ehnman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Members of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family are mitogens for cells of a mesenchymal origin and have important functions both during development and in the adult. Their role in developmental processes has been extensively investigated by methodical targeted gene inactivations, revealing critical involvement in microvascular pericyte recruitment, neural crest development and alveogenesis. 4. 9. On the Tissue-type Plasminogen Activator (t-PA) -7,351C>T Enhancer Polymorphism. Importance for endothelial t-PA gene expression and arterial thrombotic disease

    Author : Anna Tjärnlund-Wolf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : tissue-type plasminogen activator; plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1; polymorphism; endothelium; Sp1; gene expression; myocardial infarction; ischemic stroke;

    Abstract : Local endothelial release of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) is an important thromboprotective mechanism. Earlier work by our group has identified a common single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at the t-PA locus (-7,351C>T), located within a GC-box in the retinoic acid (RA) and steroid hormone responsive t-PA enhancer. 5. 10. Blood Pressure Elevation - Impact on Cardiovascular Structure and Endogenous Fibrinolysis

    Author : Wilhelm Ridderstråle; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : hypertension; left ventricular hypertrophy; intima-media thickness; fibrinolysis; endothelium; tissue plasminogen activator; antihypertensive agents; mechanical stress; plasminogen activator inhibitor-1;

    Abstract : Blood pressure elevation is a major risk factor for cardiovascular events and the risk increases in a dose-dependant manner. It is of importance to identify subjects prone to develop hypertension and adverse cardiovascular remodeling in order to start treatment timely. READ MORE
