  1. 1. Wheat Gluten -Based Materials and Composites: Extrusion, Casting and Antimicrobial Properties

    Author : Hasan Türe; Mikael Hedenqvist; José-Maria Lagaron; KTH; []
    Keywords : wheat gluten; extrusion; urea; montmorillonite; sol-gel process; hybrid materials; casting; compression moulding; potassium sorbate; antifungal; plasticiser; thermal; mechanical and barrier properties.;

    Abstract : The use of bio-based polymers as packaging materials has gained much attention due to increasing environmental concerns regarding non-biodegradable petroleum-derived plastics. Wheat gluten (WG) is a valuable renewable resource for the production of bio-based materials because of its low price, biodegradability, good film-forming properties and good gas barrier properties under dry conditions. Abstract : The potential for recycling various polymeric materials contained within buildings constructed in the late 1960s and 1970s in Sweden was investigated during the course of this work. Three residential blocks were studied to establish the quantity of materials available for recycling, to investigate the difficulty in and time needed for the dismantling of the buildings, the degree of purity of the materials, and the possibility of separating the materials. 5. 5. Biodegradable nanocomposite films based on amylopectin and chitosan

    Author : David Nordqvist; Mikael Hedenqvist; Lars Berglund; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : The use of disposable material is rapidly increasing, today the absolute majority of the material used for these application, i.e. food packages, are oil-based plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene. Therefore it is of great importance to find alternative biodegradable materials made from renewable resources for this huge growing market. READ MORE
