1. Thermodynamics and Structure of Plate-Like Particle Dispersions
Abstract : A considerable amount of mineral particles are found to have a plate-like shape. The work in this thesis concerns theoretical investigations, using Monte Carlo method, of the properties of such particles in aqueous solutions. READ MORE

2. Formation of mesoporous SBA-15 from a colloidal perspective
Abstract : The formation of the hexagonal ordered mesoporous SBA-15 material has been invetsigated. The evolution from free spherical micelles into an ordered material was studied with time-resolved in-situ SAXS, USAXS and SANS measurements. Both the mesoscopic region and the colloidal region were monitored. READ MORE

3. Flow of Colloidal Mesophases
Abstract : This dissertation presents new work and results in the flow of complex fluids and experimental methodologies for their investigation. Plate-like colloidal particles of kaolinite and nickel hydroxide are studied. A study of lamellar fragments and their mixture with the nickel hydroxide particles is also presented. READ MORE

4. Water-based Tape Casting of Ceramics and Fabrication of Ceramic Laminates
Abstract : The objective of the work presented in this dissertation has been twofold: to develop a water-based system for tape casting and to build laminar structures from the tapes. A set of requirements on the binder was specified and latexes were identified as suitable for water-based tape casting, mainly owing to their low viscosity and high polymeric content. READ MORE

5. Nanostructured Tungsten Materials by Chemical Methods
Abstract : Tungsten based-materials are used in many different technical fields, particularly in applications requiring good temperature and/or erosion resistance. Nanostructuring of tungsten alloys and composites has the potential to dramatically improve the materials’ properties, enhancing the performance in present applications or enabling totally new possibilities.
