1. Platelet activation and aggregation: Clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : Background: Dual antiplatelet therapy with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and the adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-receptor antagonist ticagrelor increases the risk of bleeding complications during cardiac surgery. The overall aim of this thesis was to identify and evaluate current and potential methods to reduce and prevent bleeding complications in patients with ongoing antiplatelet therapy. READ MORE

2. Platelet Adhesion to Proteins in Microplates Applications in Experimental and Clinical Research
University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic PressAbstract : Platelets are crucial for prevention of blood loss after vessel injury. Platelet adhesion to disrupted vessel walls is mediated by receptors such as the GPIb-IX-V complex that binds von Willebrand factor and the collagen-binding integrin α2β1. READ MORE

3. Platelet reactivity and comorbidities in acute coronary syndrome
University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitetAbstract : Background In the event of an acute coronary syndrome (ACS), the risk of death and complications such as stroke and re-infarction is high during the first month. Diabetes, impaired kidney function, elevated markers of systemic inflammation and high level of platelet reactivity have all been associated with worsened prognosis in ACS patients. READ MORE

4. Inflammation, platelet aggregation and prognosis in acute myocardial infarction
University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitetAbstract : The incidence of stroke and re-infarction is noticeably high in the first few days following acute myocardial infarction. This finding has raised questions whether the systemic inflammatory reaction secondary to myocardial necrosis is involved. READ MORE

5. Platelet Inhibition and Bleeding Complications in Cardiac Surgery Patients - Clinical and experimental studies
University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitetAbstract : BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with acetylsalicylic acid and a P2Y12 inhibitor (clopidogrel, ticagrelor, or prasugrel) reduces thrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), but it is also associated with an increased risk of bleeding complications. The aim of this project was to investigate the prevalence and effects of platelet inhibition in the context of cardiac surgery, the bleeding problems that may occur, and treatment of bleeding complications.
