  1. 16. Platelet inhibition and secondary prevention in cardiac surgery patients

    Author : Erik Björklund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coronary artery bypass grafting; secondary prevention; bleeding complications; impedance aggregometry;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Background and objective Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the most common cardiac surgery procedure. Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) reduces the risk for ischaemic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) but increases the bleeding risk, both for spontaneous bleedings and procedure-related bleedings for the subset of ACS patients undergoing urgent CABG. 2. 17. Genetic studies on cardiovascular disease - identification of novel drug targets

    Author : Stefan Amisten; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; platelet; single nucleotide polymorphism; myocardial infarction; stent; G-protein coupled receptor; P2Y; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify novel potential drug targets of cardiovascular disease with a focus on G-protein coupled receptors. We identified a common genetic variant of the ATP receptor P2Y11, where an alanine is substituted with a threonine at position 87 of the P2Y11 receptor that increases the risk of developing acute myocardial infarction. 3. 18. Organ-specific mechanisms of vascular development in the mesentery

    Author : Yang Zhang; Taija Mäkinen; Wiebke Herzog; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lymphatic vasculature; mesentery; hemogenic endothelium; lymphvasculogenesis; endothelial integrity; platelet; blood-filled lymphatic vessel; morphogenesis and maturation; compensation;

    Abstract : Understanding how the vascular systems are formed has significant clinical importance. General mechanisms underlying vascular development have been extensively studied during the past decades. However, the mechanisms regulating the development and function of the blood and lymphatic vessels in specific organs are poorly understood. READ MORE

  4. 19. Experimental studies on thrombin inhibition in acute- and chronic models of vessel wall injury

    Author : Fredrik Scherstén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : animal model; antithrombin; fibrinogen; histomorphology; melagatran; percutaneous coronary intervention; platelets; restenosis; stent; thrombin inhibition; thrombosis;

    Abstract : Background: The number of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) performed worldwide has increased dramatically during the last decade. Complication rates have decreased over time, however the restenosis phenomenon remains an unsolved issue. Thrombin is the key regulator in the pro-coagulant state following PCI. READ MORE

  5. 20. The role of platelet thrombin receptors PAR1 and PAR4 in platelet activation

    Author : Karin Vretenbrant Öberg; Tomas Lindahl; Sofia Ramström; Johan Heemskerk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Platelets play a pivotal role in coagulation and haemostasis. Their most prominent task is to seal damaged blood vessels by the formation of a platelet plug at the damaged area. Once the injury is covered, platelets retract the coagulum to close the wound and allow the blood to flow freely in the vessel. READ MORE
