  1. 11. Platelets and eosinophils in lung tissue remodelling

    Author : Ulrika Zagai; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : eosinophil; fibroblast; inflammation; lung; platelet; remodelling;

    Abstract : Tissue injury and inflammation followed by effective repair restores normal function, but defective repair with associated tissue remodelling and fibrosis can lead to loss of organ function. Thus, interactions between inflammatory and mesenchymal cells in connection with the remodelling processes are of considerable importance with regards to the development of pulmonary disorders, since this interplay determines the outcome of the disease. 2. 12. Studies on mechanisms in liver fibrosis

    Author : Nils Kinnman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : bile duct epithelial cell; chernotaxis; cholestasis; cystic fibrosis; cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator; endothelin; hepatic stellate cell; hepatitis C virus; liver fibrosis; platelet-derived growth factor; platelet-derived growth factor receptor [beta]; smooth muscle [alpha]-actin; transforming growth factor- [beta]; tumor necrosis factor-[alpha];

    Abstract : The aim of the present study was to elucidate mechanisms involved in liver fibrogenesis, the wound healing response of the liver to chronic injury. A role for TNF-[alpha] and all three isoforms of TGF-[beta] in the pathogenesis of hepatitis C related liver disease was suggested by the finding of increased expression of TGF-[beta]1-3, latent TGF-[beta] binding protein (LTBP), and TNF-[alpha] by immunohistochemistry in areas of inflammation and fibrosis in liver tissue from untreated patients with hepatitis C. 3. 13. The role of PDGFB in dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and giant cell fibroblastoma

    Author : Kevin P O'Brien; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans; giant cell fibroblastoma; translocation; FISH; translocation breakpoint; fusion gene; oncogene; Platelet derived growth factor B-chain; collagen type I alpha 1; tumor formation; autocrine stimulation;

    Abstract : Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) and giant cell fibroblastoma (GCF) are rare invasive tumors of the dermis. GCF is considered the juvenile form of DFSP. Both DFSP and GCF are characterized by the presence of chromosomal aberrations involving chromosomes 17 and 22. READ MORE

  4. 14. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation

    Author : Lingwei Wang; Sektion II; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Western blotting; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; vascular remodeling; systemic lupus erythematosus; smooth muscle cell; shear stress; real-time PCR; platelets; P2 receptor; gene expression; erythrocyte; ATP release; endothelium;

    Abstract : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes. 5. 15. Vascular endothelial growth factor in renal cell carcinoma

    Author : Jan Jacobsen; Börje Ljungberg; Kjell Grankvist; Torgny Rasmuson; Anders Bergh; Peter Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGF; isoforms; quantitative RT-PCR; immunohistochemistry; tissue microarray; Western blot; stage; survival; renal cell carcinoma; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi;

    Abstract : Background. Angiogenesis is essential for tumour growth. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its isoforms were investigated in relation to the clinical course in a large number of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods. READ MORE
