2. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions
Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 3. Towards a theory of natural occupation: developing theoretical, methodological and empirical support for the relation between plot systems and urban processes
Abstract : Plot systems (or ‘plots’, ‘lots’, ‘parcels’, ‘land divisions’) is a commonly recognised structural component of urban form along with streets and buildings. They play a critical role in understanding urban processes in cities, not least of all because they link directly between the physical world and institutions, such as property rights. READ MORE

4. A Systematic Approach to Integrated Building Performance Assessment and Visualisation
Abstract : The aim of this project was to develop a holistic approach to building-performance assessment without limiting it to energy use (usually expressed in kWh/m2/year), but rather include more parameters that represent the following aspects: Economic, environmental, and quality of service provided to the occupant/client. If it can be shown that buildings can be operated not only in an energy-efficient way, but also in a way that takes into consideration the needs of the occupants, a case could be built that a higher quality of indoor environment does not necessarily mean a higher economic impact. 5. Spectroscopic data and multivariate analysis : tools to study genetic perturbations in poplar trees
Abstract : In our society in the 21st century one of the greatest challenges is to provide raw materials to the industry in a sustainable way. This requires increased use of renewable raw materials such as wood. Wood is widely used in pulp, paper and textile industries and ongoing research efforts aim to extend the use of wood in e.g. READ MORE
