  1. 1. SLPI and soluble BTLA as immunological markers in severe bacterial infections

    Author : Anna Lange; Olof Hultgren; Jonas Sundén-Cullberg; Peter Bergman; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SLPI; sBTLA; sepsis; bloodstream infection; pneumonia;

    Abstract : Clinical presentation, and outcome of infections are affected by host-, and etiology- (focus of infection and pathogen) related factors. The immune response is controlled by a network of regulating pathways. READ MORE

  2. 2. Diagnostic methods for bacterial etiology in adult community-acquired pneumonia

    Author : Kristoffer Strålin; Åke Örtqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The etiologic agent is often unidentified in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Development of new diagnostic methods has been encouraged. We aimed to develop a multiplex PCR (mPCR) assay for common bacterial pathogens and evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of this assay and of respiratory culture in CAP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improved diagnosis and prediction of community-acquired pneumonia

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Community-acquired pneumonia; infection; diagnosis; qPCR; metabolites; metabolomics;

    Abstract : Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although there is wide variation in the microbial etiology, CAP may manifest with similar symptoms, making institution of proper treatment challenging. READ MORE

  4. 4. Streptococcus pneumoniae : epidemiological, clinical and serological studies

    Author : Lars Å. Burman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Streptococcus pneumoniae; incidence; predisposing factors; prognosis; serotyping; etiology of pneumonia; diagnostic methods; COA; CIE; pneumococcal serology;

    Abstract : A retrospective study of invasive pneumococcal disease in patients from Greater Göteborg in 1964- 1980 identified 125 cases of meningitis, 305 of pneumonia, 61 of septicemia with unknown focus, and 17 with other manifestations, all verified by cultures from normally sterile body fluids. The incidence was several times higher in infants and in the elderly than in any other age-group. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pulmonary complications after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

    Author : Ulrica Forslöw; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The respiratory tract is one of the most common and serious sites for complications in HSCT patients. In this project the incidence, outcome, and risk factors for patients with infectious or non-infectious pulmonary complications were studied. Bronchoscopy and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) were evaluated as diagnostic tools. READ MORE
