  1. 1. Ensembles and Open Quantum Systems in Polaritonic Chemistry

    Author : Eric Davidsson; Markus Kowalewski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polaritonic Chemistry; Optical Cavities; Open Quantum Systems; Quantum Simulations; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Optical cavities—where spatial confinement can focus electromagnetic excitations—are able to couple matter to light with enough strength that the behaviour of the combined system is best understood in terms of polaritonic states; mixtures of excitations in both light and matter. This polaritonic regime provides a novel approach for modification and control of chemical reactions, and lately, experimental advancements are realising this potential. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ensembles and Open Quantum Systems in Polaritonic Chemistry

    Author : Eric Davidsson; Markus Kowalewski; Gerrit Groenhof; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polaritonic Chemistry; Open Quantum Systems; Cavity QED; The Jaynes-Cummings Model; Optical Cavities; Computational Quantum Dynamics; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : Optical cavities are structures where excitations in the electromagnetic field (photons of light) are confined and generally long-lived. The spatial confinement will enhance interactions with any matter systems in the cavity, such that the behaviour of a combined system is best understood in terms of polaritonic states; mixtures of excitations in both light and matter. 3. 3. Numerical Studies of Energy Gaps in Photonic Crystals

    Author : Andreas Rung; Carl-Gustaf Ribbing; Norbert Kaiser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; photonic crystals; polaritonic; periodic structures; Reststrahlen; band structure; energy gap; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The concept of photonic crystals was born in the late 1980's when two important letters were published that showed the possibility to control light propagation by a periodic structure. A photonic crystals consists of two or more materials with different dielectric functions periodically arranged on the length scale of light. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical Studies of Periodic Microstructures in Polar Materials

    Author : Herman Högström; Carl Gustaf Ribbing; Clivia M. Sotomayor Torres; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; polaritonic; polar; photonic crystal; surface phonon polariton; multilayer; Reststrahlen; SiC; SiO2; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : The optical properties of matter are determined by the coupling of the incident electromagnetic radiation to oscillators within the material. The oscillators can be electrons, ions or molecules. Close to a resonance the dielectric function exhibits strong dispersion and may be negative. READ MORE

  5. 5. Strong light-matter interaction and its consequences on molecular photophysics

    Author : Manuel Hertzog; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Strong coupling; Vibropolariton; Polaritonic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Strong light-matter interaction offers the possibility to modify chemical and physical properties of molecules by modifying their photonic environment, resulting in the creation of hybrid light-matter states, known as polaritons. The field of polaritonic chemistry using microfluidic cavities is in its infancy, and developing methods to increase the coupling strength are necessary to maximise the effects of polaritonic states.
