1. A Systems Tool for Prescriptive Policy Analysis : Labelled Causal Mapping Method for Policy-oriented Modelling, Simulation and Decision analysis
Abstract : The elicitation and processing of relevant information is the core of any policy decision-making process. Modelling is about making sense of the available information. Models are able to incorporate the contextual influences on policy making (e.g. READ MORE

2. The Transition Towards a Fossil Free Freight Transport Sector – Policy Evaluations and Effects of Proposed Policy Instruments
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to improve the knowledge about how policy instruments can contribute to effective and efficient reductions of greenhouse gas emissions in the freight and maritime transport sectors. Paper I addresses this aim by analysing how policy evaluations contribute with information about whether policy instruments in the freight transport sector have been successful in achieving their targets and how to improve or correct already implemented ones. 3. Design and Investigation of a Decision Support System for Public Policy Formulation
Abstract : The ultimate aim of support for public policy decision making is to develop ways of facilitating policymaking that can create policies that are consistent with the preferences of policymakers and stakeholders (such as an increase in economic growth, the reduction of social inequalities, and improvements to the environment), and that are at the same time based on the available knowledge and evidential information.Using the design science research methodology, an iterative design process was followed to build and evaluate a research artefact in the form of an analytical method that is also operationalised as a decision support system (DSS) – in order to facilitate the problem analysis, the impact assessment and the decision evaluation activities carried out at the policy formulation stage of the policymaking process. 4. Research and reflections on European air pollution policy support models
Abstract : European emissions to air of SO2, NOx, PM2.5, NH3 and NMVOC still today cause harm to human health and the environment. These pollutants are associated with the premature death of ~400 000 people annually in the EU (25 000 perished in traffic accidents 2017). Improvements are expected but problems will persist. 5. Congestion Charging in Urban Networks : Modelling Issues and Simulated Effects
Abstract : One of the major challenges cities face today, in their development towards sustainable urban areas, is the need for an efficient and environmentally friendly transport system. This transport system should manage to tie together the city without strong adverse impact on urban environment, air-quality and climate change. READ MORE
