1. Enabling and Achieving Self-Management for Large Scale Distributed Systems : Platform and Design Methodology for Self-Management
Abstract : Autonomic computing is a paradigm that aims at reducing administrative overhead by using autonomic managers to make applications self-managing. To better deal with large-scale dynamic environments; and to improve scalability, robustness, and performance; we advocate for distribution of management functions among several cooperative autonomic managers that coordinate their activities in order to achieve management objectives. 2. Traffic Management in Software-Defined Data Center Networks
Abstract : Traffic management in data centers is paramount to improving network and application performance, thereby improving the quality of service by reducing network congestion, packet loss, and latency. However, the deployment and configuration of traffic management techniques are challenging due to diverse data-center traffic characteristics, large data center topologies, and the interplay of different protocols at the routing, transport, and link layer. 3. Adaptive management for networked systems
Abstract : As networked systems grow in size and dynamicity, management systems must become adaptive to changing networking conditions. The focus of the work presented in this thesis is on developing engineering principles for adaptive management systems. We investigate three problems in the context of adaptive management for networked systems. READ MORE

4. Marginal Productivity Indices and Linear Programming Relaxations for Dynamic Resource Allocation in Queueing Systems
Abstract : Many problems concerning resource management in modern communication systems can be simplified to queueing models under Markovian assumptions. The computation of the optimal policy is however often hindered by the curse of dimensionality especially for models that support multiple traffic or job classes. READ MORE

5. Ergonomics for the improvement of health and safety of female workers in industrially developing countries
Abstract : The thesis presents the results of an ergonomics survey which contains eleven studies in five different industries of Thailand and four different industries of Japan (Papers A to K). The aims of the studies were; (i) to identify priority problems of female workers in different industries from ergonomic points of view; (ii) to analyze and investigate these problems; (iii) to examine the ergonomics intervention practices at work places; and iv) to develop a practical method for appropriate ergonomics interventions at work for improving health and safety of female workers, particularly in industrially developing countries.
