  1. 1. Tree-limit ecotonal response to Holocene climate change in the Scandes Mountains of west-central Sweden

    University dissertation from Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Jonas Bergman; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tree-limit ecotone; alpine vegetation; tephrochronology; peat humification; plant macrofossils; Palaeobotany; fylogeni; Paleobotanik; palynology; phylogeny; palynologi; Geologi; Geology; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; klimatologi; geomorfologi; climatology; Fysisk geografi; cartography; Holocene climate; palaeoecology; marklära; kartografi; pollen influx;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to reconstruct the Holocene vegetational and climatic development in the Sylarna-Storulvån area, western Jämtland, in the central Scandes Mountains. Temporal trends and fluctuations in the elevation and vegetational character of the tree-limit ecotone were studied mainly by means of pollen and plant macrofossil analysis of two lake sediment sequences (Lakes Stentjärn and Spåime), located above the present-day tree-limit. University dissertation from Uppsala : Afrikansk och jämförande arkeologi

    Author : Anneli Ekblom; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Archaeology; environmental history; archaeology; archaeobotany; paleoecology; vegetation history; pollen analysis; environmental management; environmental insecurity; resource utilisation; landscape; paleclimatology; trade; oral tradition; Mozambique; Vilanculos; Arkeologi; HUMANITIES and RELIGION History and philosophy subjects Archaeology subjects; HUMANIORA och RELIGIONSVETENSKAP Historisk-filosofiska ämnen Arkeologiämnen;

    Abstract : This thesis analyses the dynamics of environmental change and its embeddedness in the long term interactions of social history and rainfall variability through the building of an environmental history of the Chibuene locality, the coastal plain of southern Mozambique, 5 km south of the town Vilanculos, from 400 AD to present day. Land-use practices over time are discussed on the basis of vegetation and land-use history based pollen analysis, charcoal influx and diatom analysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Holocene vegetation dynamics and climate changes in the Torneträsk area, northern Sweden

    University dissertation from Department of Quaternary Geology, Lund University

    Author : Lena Barnekow; [1999]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleobotanik; palynology; phylogeny; Palaeobotany; northern Sweden; Torneträsk; Abisko; lake-level; radiocarbon dating; forest history; Holocene; tree-line; climate; Vegetation; fylogeni; palynologi; Physical geography; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to reconstruct the Holocene vegetation history and the climate changes in a subarctic area. The results are based on pollen and macrofossil records from six lakes in the Torneträsk area. The lakes are situated at altitudes between 370 and 999 m a.s. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stormy records from peat bogs in south-west Sweden : implications for regional climatic variability and vegetation changes during the past 6500 years

    University dissertation from Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Rixt de Jong; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene climate; south-west Sweden; aeolian activity; humidity changes; vegetation development; REVEALS vegetation modelling; atmospheric circulation changes; peat sediments;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to reconstruct and explain variations in storm activity, humidity, vegetation composition and land cover in south-west Sweden during the past 6500 years. Two ombrotrophic bogs, Store Mosse and Undarsmosse, situated on the coastal plain of Halland, were selected for this purpose. READ MORE

  5. 5. Granulocyte Adhesion to Matrix Proteins and the Effect on the Release of Granule Proteins Development of a Simple Method and its Application in Experimental and Clinical Studies

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Xiaoyan Xu; Joachim Lundahl; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Adhesion; Release of ECP; Extracellular matrix proteins; Granulocytes; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Granulocyte adhesion and release of their granule proteins are key steps during selective accumulation of a certain cell to an inflammatory site. Eosinophils are specifically recruited to sites of allergic inflammation and parasitic infection, whereas neutrophil influx predominates in bacterial infection and rheumatoid arthritis. READ MORE
