  1. 1. Air pollution and health – Indicators, trends and impacts

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry, Stockholm University

    Author : Henrik Olstrup; Stockholms universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; air pollution; health; measurements; trends; impacts; mortality; NOx; elemental carbon; AQHI; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on some of the limitations and difficulties that exist when it comes to quantifying the human health effects that arise as a result of air pollution exposure. The following four issues are particularly analysed and discussed: 1) The measurement techniques used for carbonaceous particles and their lack of consistency; 2) Do the health risks associated with exposure to PM10 depend on the content of elemental carbon in the aerosol?; 3) Trends in air pollutants and the health effects that arise as a result of changed exposure to the measured pollutants; 4) The associations between the measured concentrations of different air pollutants in Stockholm and the daily number deaths; 5) Air quality indicators and health outcomes as basis for an air quality health index (AQHI). 2. 2. Health effects of air pollution in Iceland respiratory health in volcanic environments

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Hanne Krage Carlsen; Umeå universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory health; air pollution; volcanic ash; epidemiology; hydrogen sulfide.; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Abstract : Air pollution has adverse effects on human health. The respiratory system is the most exposed and short-term changes in air pollution levels have been associated with worsening of asthma symptoms and increased rates of heart attacks and stroke. Air pollution in cities due to traffic is the major concern, as many people are exposed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Air pollution in Nairobi slums sources, levels and lay perceptions

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå University

    Author : Kanyiva Muindi; Umeå universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Air pollution; perceptions; slums; health impacts; Nairobi; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Abstract : BackgroundAir quality in Africa has remained a relatively under-researched field. Most of the African population is dependent on biomass for cooking and heating, with most of the combustion happening in low efficiency stoves in unvented kitchens. READ MORE

  4. 4. Exposure to air pollution during pregnancy and health risks for mother and child

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Luftföroreningar har i många studier visat sig skada vår hälsa. Även om risken för den enskilda individen kan vara relativt liten så kan omfattningen av hälsoeffekterna bli stora eftersom det är så många som exponeras. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Use of GIS in Assessing Exposure to Airborne Pollutants

    University dissertation from Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine

    Author : Emilie Stroh; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NOx; air pollution; GIS; Exposure assessment; Lead; NO2;

    Abstract : GIS (Geographical Information System) has become a valuable tool in air pollution exposure assessment studies due to its abilities to accurately model and estimate exposure for large populations and areas. The general aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate the factors that affect the validity and precision in the assessment of human exposure to airborne pollution using GIS.
