1. Covalent Vapor-Phase Grafting of Degradable Polymers
READ MORE

2. Covalent Surface Modification of Degradable Polymers for Increased Biocompatibility
Abstract : Degradable polymers have gained an increased attention in the field of biomedical applications over the past decades, for example in tissue engineering. One way of improving the biocompatibility of these polymers is by chemical surface modification, however the risk of degradation during the modification procedure is a limiting factor. READ MORE

3. POLYPEPTIDES - STRUCTURES AND INTERACTIONS IN MONOLAYERS AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS
Abstract : The aim of this thesis work is to understand and be able to control polypeptide conformation and interactions at interfaces and in solution by changing the solution conditions. For this purpose simple model polypeptides, so-called polyamino acids, have been investigated at the air-liquid interface, as well as in aqueous solutions. READ MORE

4. Environment-Sensitive Multifunctional Drug Delivery Systems
Abstract : Drug delivery systems (DDS) with multiple functionalities such as environment-sensitive drug release mechanisms and visualization agents have motivated the biomedical community as well as materials chemists for more than a decade. This dissertation is concerned with the development of nanoparticles for multifunctional DDS to tackle several crucial challenges in these complex systems, including polymeric nanospheres which respond to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles/polymeric composite for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and drug carriers, immunoresponse of nanomaterials and injectable magnetic field sensitive ferrogels. 5. Electronic and optical properties of conducting polymers from quantum mechanical computations
Abstract : Conductive polymers are also known as "organic metals" due to their semiconducting properties. They are found in a wide range of applications in the field of organic electronics. However, the growing number of experimental works is not widely supported with theoretical calculations. READ MORE
